For a few years from the age of five my dad forced me to take his lithium. I now have a cardiovascular and thyroid autoimmune disorder which doctors I have seen about stabilizing my thyroid all say was undoubtedly triggered by being plied with my dad's meds as I was being forced to take the dose of an adult man and was underage to be taking the drug ful stop then there's the elephantine doses I was taking and basically my body was screwed. At the time this was the least of my worries in fact I think I was only forced to take his meds so i couldn't fight off the other shit that was happening not at his hands but I'm pretty sure he knew about what they were doing, I mean, there is a difference between normal childhood injuries and suspicious childhood injuries right? And he questioned f*ck all as I can only assume he didn't give a rat's ads plus he was in the room when one of the priests hurt me so what he went temporarily blind and deaf so he couldn't see what was happening or hear my screams? Now that I'm older it matters more as he has caused me irreversible physical damage and left me with a lifelong medical condition that I have to take medication that I hate the side effects of every day the rest of my life. Anyways that was a round the octopuses way of asking if anyone else is on levothyroxine and what side effects you experience and how it effects your weight, heart, ability to excercise and all that jazz. Please reply if u have any experience of this as I'm in a dark place with this at the mo and am considering stopping taking my meds against docs advice. Have seen an endocrinologist but he did nothing to help but have moved docs since so maybe should ask for another refferall?

Not sure how much i can help but ive been on oroxine since i was 6 weeks old (40+) years. If your thyroid is out and you have depression/anxiety on top it is a major pain in the arse. Hou spend your whole life balancing .. tsh too low and everything slows down , depression, brain alows and you live in a fog , hair thining, list goes on .. too much and you get paramoid and agitated your heart goes too fast and your thoughts race.

Weight wise ... not enough meds your weight will more than likely increase. Too much meds actually doesnt help take it off again (how is that fair!??)

Finding a good endocrinologist is a jackpot. Dont go off your meds. As much as you hate the side effects of them .. and yep they arent fun, being un medicated will make you feel a whole lot worse.

Sorry that you are going through all this crap.

I'm so sorry that you had to endure all of that.

I've been on levothyroxine for 2 years for hypothyroidism that I developed from taking one of my psychiatric meds. I also take another thyroid med called liothyronine...for just over a year. My hair was falling out and one of my thyroid levels was out of balance. No side effects from that either and my hair is coming back in very nicely.
Hope that helps.

@Finchlet Thank you for posting; understand and personally identify about sexual abuse, yes I do. Am saddened to hear that you went through this horrific bodily violation as well; and that your dad forced you to take his elephantine dose of lithium. And priests seem to have a great amount of immunity to prosecution for violating children. Grrr. I am deeply sorrowful that your body (as mine was too) so destructively violated by people we are taught to trust and obey. Hurts to read your story @Finchlet. I care about you, and I identify with your pain, on a very deep personal level, precious one.

I am on levothyroxine too. Diagnosed w/Hashimoto's Disease a.k.a. hypothryoidism since 8/92. And yes, I also experience adverse side effects although I'm not clear which is causing problems: the now long dead thyroid or the levothyroxine medication, or the former huge groupings of mental *health* medications I was put on for the wrong diagnosis. I am not fully sure what has been causing my symptoms. However, that said, @Finchlet I do know that my heart and brain are directly effected when levothyroxine levels (T.S.H.) are not within range.

Since '92 (after levothyroxine was rx'd I had gained additional weight due to eating disorder (not just due to the thyroid failure and the levothyroxine administered) some of weight gain I believe is also connected to the psychotropic drugs and anti-anxiety medications, anti-depressants. ad infinitum. My body's metabolism because of dead thyroid (mine is dead) has slowed down; and my skin is dry like I live in the desert - moisturizer is my middle name. Hypothryoidism (mine may be contributing to my inability to get a restful sleep), not sure as hypo-t can cause quite a bit of problems, sleep issues are also because of ptsd.

One thing I want to caution you about, if your T.S.H. (thyroid stimulating hormone) value is not in range, you will feel very tired, hungry, and confused much of the time. For as you know the thyroid when functioning properly operates the speed at which our brain's fire; and thyroid also regulates heart beats, and so many other functions in the body. I caution you about going off levothyroxine, and strongly encourage you to have your T.S.H. blood level drawn and determine if it is in range: 0.5 to 4.5/5.0.

I try and keep my T.S.H. at 2. to 3. range so my brain will fire more rapidly and heart will beat more in range 80-100 beats per min which is my range only, others' hearts beat at different optimum rates per minute, all are different. Same w/b/pressure (keeping T.S.H. in range helps with the mental and physical fatigue) I experience when my T.S.H. blood hormone levels are at 4., and on up. If I can help more, and I don't know if I have, sure hope so @Finchlet, please let me know. I care about you. JadesJewel.

I was Dx'd with hypothyroid when I was 16, and I'm now 34. Took levothyroxine for a couple of years, but the side effects were horrendous. I switched to bio-identical thyroid hormone prescroptions

Stupid phone... I switched to bio-identical thyroid replacement prescriptions and felt so much better! But supply kept getting disrupted, and I soon lost my access to doctors who would prescribe that blend, so I had to look for a non-prescription thyroid replacement. Found one, both porcine and bovine. Porcine works better, but supply is frequently disrupted, so I keep the bovine on hand and just make sure I get regular labs to check my thyroid levels. Works great, but the Feds aren't happy with the fact that I'm controlling a disabling condition without their influence.
