Yeah.
I would recommend that. Steel yourself for things to be a bit unpleasant. Parents are just not going to react the way you want them to and may (in your mind) over react.

That said, try to remember that they held you in their arms when you were born and have invested much of their lives and love into you, (even if they screw things up a lot) so it will kind of make sense for them to be upset/worried/hurt/maybe even a little angry (even though they won't quite understand why they are angry themselves)

If you attempted, none of that matters and they will have to deal with it. That goes with being a parent.

You CAN go talk to your parents. A school administrator will just act as a mediator in these matters. Your parents will need to be involved. Not sure about laws in your country but in the states, that's the way the ball bounces

Another thing: go ahead and brace: this will bring about a sweeping change. You may not like it at first. But if that's where you are, then the change is going to be appropriate.

Finally, know this:
I have severe PTSD. Much of what I experienced, my children either witnessed or experienced themselves. I have attempted in the past so I get it. When my first born attempted(the result of PTSD) all I could picture was him as a baby. What stayed my hand from freaking out though was understanding his head space. I got that it was about him and not me. I had that luxury, your parents (hopefully) don't have that experience to draw on. I love my son just as much now, months after as I did before. Funny thing about being a mom, that part doesn't seem to change.
