Trigger Help Needed.

OK i have a question? Does the following make sense and is there a name for it........

EX. I was attacked by someone with a blue handled knife...Blue handle knives freak me out. I get it and am working on managing it...... Now if I see what I know is a holder or holster for that knife even though the holster was not visible to me or I do not even know if the guy that attacked me had one on every knife hoster I see freaks me out wheather there is a knife in it or not. Is that possible or normal ...I am calling it an associative trigger...does anyone get what I am saying has that happened to anyone...And is there a corect term for it?

Hi nj, sorry no magic answers.

IMHO, to my mind, anything which is associated with a knife even if you didn't see it during the attack will make your mind scream knife. To me it seems logical that a holster would have that effect.

The nearest for me is that in my accident I can't remember any sound. Yet emergency vehicle sirens are a trigger.

I don't know if that helps, maybe speak to your T next time.

Yes... its a direct trigger to your trauma. Process the cognitive aspects of what you feel, followed by exposure, should clear it up, however; not all triggers will remove completely, and the more direct to a violent event, the less likely they will remove, more reduce.... by reduction is still a good thing.

Yes njray, verly likely, possible, understandable and perfectly normal. I get it and yes it has happened with me.

Count me in on this one. One of my triggers was a Home Depo plastic 5 gallon bucket, Yup stupid to the out sider, but the color orange was even begining to freak me out.

Fisrt step is to have conformation in your mind that this is a trigger. This dam 5 dollar bucket was controlling me. So i bought one and started to use it to pick up my puppy poo.

I have filled that bucket up so many times that it is know just my %hit bucket
