Trigger Warnings

Gentle hugs, Leah. I used to attend a live support group for incest survivors as well. I had to stop because I found no peace listening to others. I found it healthier to strive to forget and move on. When I have to face or listen to the same traumas discussed in detail it triggers me too much. So my own health I just don't go there. And that also includes those online sites I used to attend.

I can read some people's diary/journals, but not others. Doesn't mean I don't like that person, it just means I can't contribute but also I get triggered. So I might pop in once in a while, just leave a quick hi, but I won't read anything they write unless it's directed to me personally.

I like trigger warnings,
Oh I totally see your point Leah. And although some triggers are very strange and unpredictable for others, others are very predictable and at least it cuts down on the potential exposure.

Personally I think a good solution is to leave it to choice. That way if it creates shame for someone then they can avoid trigger warnings and if it doesn't then they can use them. And the rest of us can negotiate our way around accordingly. And lesson our exposure accordingly. One less exposure to a trigger is one less exposure. Just my thoughts.

I have to add that I went to my PTSD group and got triggered badly. We aren't supposed to go into details but this person did. I forgot that I was supposed to raise my hand to have the person stop. But we have a buddy system where someone will come after you and I got real hugs that I thought would trigger me more, but didn't. I was able to be hugged and have gut wrenching sobs and it really helped. So now I can see the other side better, lol, and I will be more cautious.

Please be advised that 'Trigger Warnings' are of no benefit and are not encouraged in thread titles and posts.

If you choose an appropriate thread title a person then chooses if they proceed to read and can leave at any time they wish.

What triggers one person may have no impact on another so having a trigger warning is a moot point.

This decision stands..... thank you for your input.
