I had the only nice time I've ever had taking my kids trick or treating. I hate it (my therp pointed out yesterday the number of triggers that were in my face)......but the tradition is that I take my daughter to just the few houses in our neighborhood, and then her dad picks her up and goes to his suburban neighborhood with a zillion kids, parents party, and a bonfire. Anyway, I stood at the street last night while my daughter and her friend went to the houses, and I was just struck by their joy, their total enjoyment. And then, they're 11 and getting kind of teenager snotty, it was adorable to hear them go to the doors.......they were so polite to everyone they met, and that made me proud. Also made me laugh because some people were unprepared, and gave them cash. I think it was a win overall.
I also enjoy kids of any age that come to my door. We used to live one a famous street that literally, we would get more than 1000 trick or treaters, people came for miles and dropped their kids off. Some of my neighbors then and now complained about the kids being too old. I have always felt like, I can't spot you a little candy bar? Like, these kids aren't smashing pumpkins (as far as I know!) or scaring little kids......or drunk at the zombie pub crawl..... I'm happy to give you candy. But that's just my feelings.
Over! There are so many other holidays to still be traumatized about before spring. ;)
