I had no idea want to do during flashbacks ...If I had know the following list found on Internet.....one thing I leArned the hard way is make sure you have both feet on the floor during a flashback . Everyone experience with Flasbabks is unique but these things are very important to know ahead of time...Are there any known rules governing who a sufferer dissociates with once they are triggered?
To ground, you want to use the five senses (sound, touch, smell, taste, and sight). To connect with the here and now, you want to do something that will bring all your attention to the present moment. A couple of grounding techniques are described below.
- Sound: Turn on loud music
- Touch: Grip a piece of ice
- Smell: Sniff some strong peppermint
- Taste: Bite into a lemon
- Sight: Take an inventory of everything around you
