Trying To Understand Dissociation

I agree with Abstract above, who said "spoke to someone else here who would forget who specific people were when exposed to them.Because something about them alone set him off. Most commonly it is general and not specific." When I get triggered, I do not necessarily know why or how and do not remember anything about a specific person. My new P & T are now just helping me understand what is going on when I fight or flee or freeze.

Thank you for asking this question, as I need to learn more about all of this, too, and you are right, it is heavy stuff that even those of us experiencing it do not always understand, for a long while, how to even process these things.
 
Are there any known rules governing who a sufferer dissociates with once they are triggered?
I had no idea want to do during flashbacks ...If I had know the following list found on Internet.....one thing I leArned the hard way is make sure you have both feet on the floor during a flashback . Everyone experience with Flasbabks is unique but these things are very important to know ahead of time...

From What to Do When You Keep Having Flashbacks
To ground, you want to use the five senses (sound, touch, smell, taste, and sight). To connect with the here and now, you want to do something that will bring all your attention to the present moment. A couple of grounding techniques are described below.

  • Sound: Turn on loud music

  • Touch: Grip a piece of ice

  • Smell: Sniff some strong peppermint

  • Taste: Bite into a lemon

  • Sight: Take an inventory of everything around you
Must know your triggers .....to be safe....what causes you to dissociate ....once the aura starts.....you need to be ready for impact...aurA starts before flAshback for a lot of people..."do not ignore it.....kinda like a plane taxi on the runway...no darkness ..,all lights on sometimes walking outside of daylight helps.....find ways that decrease your anxiety....the more you allow yourself to be in terror.....the dissociation can be deeper and longer
