Hi everyone,

sorry to invade this plave but I was wondering if any of your doctors ever gave you MDMA for your PTSD?
I am trying to find out what it does to you, because I think my brother is using it to fight his PTSD.
If you have ever tried it or your doctor has given you some could you please tell me what it did to you, cause my brother is acting really strange and I dont trust it. :(

Hi everyone,

MDMA has been used recently in trials to treat PTSD in conjunction with therapy. It allows the patient to open up more and trust the therapist enough to work through difficult issues. So essentially taking MDMA alone doesn't help PTSD. It has been therapeutic when combined with talk therapy, only in the sense that it facilitates openness and trust within the therapy environment.

MDMA is never something that a patient is prescribed to take on their own, like an antidepressant taken daily, or an antianxiety med taken occasionally. When people say MDMA+Therapy, it's meant literally. As in taken while in the office, with the therapist, and staying for hours, until it -mostly- wears off.

Essentially it's chemical Trust, with strong overtones of Happy, and a liberal dash of Childhood Innocence.

Correct. In addition to Trust, Happy, & Innocence - MDMA can have psychogenic properties (akin to LSD or 'shrooms etc) and that can be DREADFUL for those suffering with PTSD. Even mentally healthy people can have bad trips that lead to years of flashbacks... When it came time for the "big brother talk" about drugs, mine was less concerned about white powder and more concerned about this for me - because he had that reaction, flashbacks for years, after one bad trip. He's a little dopey but not quite mentally ill :)

My most sensible substance-decision ever was to avoid psychedelics. I had episodes of wild dissociation and flashbacks and thank goodness that I was aware enough, as a teen, to know this was a bad road to travel. (Not that I always went the sensible way, but in this I did.)

I'm just adding and elaborating to re-enforce, so that anyone reading knows that this knows to tread very carefully. Working with a counselor should prevent or at least drastically reduce the possibility of such troubles.

Thank you all for the replies! It is amazing that so many are helping me.

Does anyone know someone that had this kind of therapy so I could talk to them about it? Cause it sounds lije MDMA isnt actually helping him but just easing the job of the therapist.

Unfortunately, MDMA therapy is not approved anywhere, even in countries where drug usage is decriminalized. However, ayahuasca might be worth trying. It's not as bad for your brain as MDMA and it even shows benefits in some cases. It shows you the good and bad sides of the situation and doesn't hide it in pure euphoria and sap your serotonin levels afterward like MDMA does. I've heard there's a few retreat centers in the Netherlands. I went to a retreat here in the U.S. and it really helped me.

That's the entire point, actually. Cuts through all the bullshit and shaves years off of recovery time for many/most people trialed with it. MDMA doesn't help/cure PTSD (or every club kid who's ever been to a rave would be PTSD free). Therapy helps PTSD. MDMA helps the therapy happen. Now. Instead of years from now, and hundreds of appointments later.

In the US the FDA just approved 3rd stage trials (this past Tuesday! :D). There have been several initial studies (around the globe) www.maps.org has the best info I've found, to date, this 3rd stage is the last before it becomes a legal Rx over here.

I actually read about the research trial, they are only accepting select veterans with PTSD. And its not going to be a pill you take every day like other meds. It's only being used to make the mind less inhibited during therapy. Again its only being used during therapy.
