Venlafaxine (effexor)

I started out on the lowest dose and fell in love with this med. The side effects were minor and I felt like ME again. After about a year, we had to increase my dose, which is typical for me. Since doing this, I have forgotten to take it twice. On both occasions, I had a series of nightmares that night. Has anyone else noticed this?

Effexor was the first med I tried for my PTSD and it exacerbated my symptoms so badly I became suicidal. I guess we are all different. It is normal to have to increase dosage though.

Hi Stacieamy,

I have been on Effexor for ~6 months. Certainly there have been a few times where I've forgotten to take it. I have frequent nightmares as it is, so cannot say if I noticed them more or if they were more severe when I missed a dose. But I will try to keep track of that, now that you mentioned it.

The weirdest part us that they're not just one. It's a whole series. I will have one, wake up, finally go back to sleep, and then it happens again. This happens like 5 or 6 times throughout the night.

Hey Stacyamy-

I'm not on Effexor (Lexapro here) but I absolutely have nightmares throughout the night sometimes. It is odd. I wake up, I remind myself that I'm safe and ok. I go get a drink of water and then go back to sleep- nightmare again. It's pretty frustrating.
