Volunteering At A Domestic Violence Shelter

I am going to be volunteering at a domestic violence, after school twice a week. Not doing anything to special. I am starting out doing more clerical work then anything more triggering. I thought that was a good idea. Good place to start. :)

Also, if psychology is something I want to get into, this is good to have experience with.

Just wanting to share. And have a place to talk about it when I need to talk.

I also realized after I posted this thread...I should have said volunteering at a domestic violence shelter...Can that be changed?

That is an EXCELLENT way to find out if the field would be a good fit for you! You are wise to do it in this way. I find the rewards of volunteering are not found anywhere else.

I start on Thursday. I will be helping people who want to take the GED. Just an information person.

Hope it all goes well...seriously. This can either help me or swing the other way, and be awful.

I enjoyed my first day. I even laughed a few times. It was relaxed there. Comfortable. However its still headquarters of a DV shelter, so you still have to have some common sense with the people that call or come it.

I have been wanting to volunteer at an animal shelter for a long time now. I could only volunteer at a no-kill shelter though. I could never work at a place where I knew the animals were going to be put down for no other reason than they could not find a forever home.

So, I just wanted to say again what a nice thing you are doing to help others.

Why don't you look in a shelter? Are there none in your area? You could foster animals too.

I think I have it narrowed down to a shelter in my town. It is a no-kill shelter.:D

The thing about fostering animals is that I will probably end up with 20 animals because once they come home with me I'll never let them leave!:roflmao: I think I'll start by being there for them taking them for walks and socializing them.
