Thanks everyone-all I can say is it's a 5 week program involving lots of journaling and inner child work. It has brought up some awful things however it also causes me to second guess myself too. Inner parts----crazy???? I don't know what I believe sometimes

Why is this life coach dispensing crap therapeutic advice?

Is this a 5 week online program?

It's possible to do inner child work the right way and inner child work the wrong way.

Upon deeper examination, I was lucky enough to stumble upon one of the right ways. It was repeatedly stressed exactly who the inner child is and that I have no dissociative disorder or "parts".

My therapist(s) have never mentioned the subject of my inner child to me. That does not mean they were not working to her, they just never said so, so I have not thought much about my inner child. I do things for her, none the less. I bought her flowers a few weeks back. She loves flowers. I cannot pick wild ones by the side of the road as I would have growing up, because I have had Lyme Disease 4 times and am deathly afraid of ticks, from which it comes. (I got it once from picking wild flowers by the side of the road). Anyway, so we buy flowers at the grocery store sometimes. We buy toys. We bought a doll recently, a life sized baby doll. I buy baby cloths for her too. And she is fun to dress. We don't cuddle her much though. She is not as soft as a real baby would seem to be. We have coloring books. We throw out upsetting mail without opening it. (That was the last thing the Therapist and I worked on).

It...

Yes-a 5 week online program. She emails a journaling assignment -inner child work such as writing a letter , inner child needs, etc. She calls 1x weekly. She has her own FB page, and website. She is available for emails 24/7 and responds quickly. She has a masters in social work and a survivor herself. She is super supportive and honest. It's just "awakening, sad, difficult, scary."

An MSW doesn't qualify you to practice. You have to do your practicum hours - so yeah, it means she went through a program, but she never completed her training or tested for licensure. Just a good thing to know, in the future.

Regardless - think of the life coach person just like any other internet resource, if you can - take what's useful, leave the rest.

I was a bit defensive about the inner child criticism. Upon further reflection it may just be something lost in translation if you know what I mean. I apologize. Also, it was upsetting to see you so upset over what you were told as I have personally found inner child work to be quite healing and I'd hate for someone else to take a powerful healing tool away from you. I think that with any therapist we are in danger if we accept everything they say without question as these people are only human, they aren't perfect, and they have varied opinions. I hope you can ask your life coach to possibly clarify as it's possible that maybe/possibly it's not as bad as she initially let on.
