How hard is it to come off that dose? I have been taking 15 mg remeron for about 9 months. I take it with 600 mg of trileptal and 1mg prazosin at bedtime. I also take 1mg of Ativan twice a day.. Morning and late afternoon. My pdoc says to go off of it as I am feeling way to drowsy in the mornings. I am also gaining weight and the morning hunger almost makes me sick in the last hour or so of sleep. She feels there is not enough in my system for a therapeutic effect or to have a withdrawl. It's not doing anything but making me sleepy. She says to go down to 7.5 for a week then go off them. I also am gonna gradually go up to 1200 on trileptal.

With that said.. Does that titration schedule make sense? Will I have withdrawals at that 15mg dose? Is it possible or even likely that the other drugs will mask or cancel them out? Has anyone had experience doing this? Will the increase in metabolism effect the other drugs.. Like the Ativan?

I have read a lot of bad things about getting off of this. Most of those were about people getting off of much higher doses. Like 30-135 mg. those titration schedules are way longer and more complicated than she suggested.

Thank you for any help here..

I never took Remeron, but I have come off a lot of anti-psychotics, anti-depressants and benzos. I am no doctor so your doctor may know something we don't, but my doc always had me come down a quarter of the total for a period of two weeks, before going down another quarter if all was well and so on.

Everyone is different so see how it works for you at the rate pdoc says or that you feel comfortable with. I can't imagine s/he would have any objection to your doing it more slowly.

I would think the Ativan in the morning might contribute to your drowsy feeling. I only took benzos at night but that's me.

The 15's can be split, as I recall? Or am I wrong? It's been awhile since I was in Remeron. If it can be split, I would do that as we all are affected by drugs differently. As a point if comparison, I was able to get symptom relief with 1/5 of the smallest size capsule of Geodon, so honestly a therapist can't make the generalization that a small dose isn't having an effect on you.

Remeron is an SNRI and as far as I can tell, your other drugs work on different chemicals in the brain. I wouldn't count on the other drugs masking the withdrawal effects of Remeron (if you have any).

I don't think my sleep would be effected. Trileptal and Prazosin make me sleep hard enough. I take the benzo after about 2 hours of being awake. I can see how it can make me sleepy at bedtime but is not the issue. I just don't feel remeron is doing anything for me accept making me gain weight. It's overkill when it comes to sleep aid. I don't feel anxiety because of the benzo and trileptal which I will be increasing. I guess I won't know until I do it. Just want to get more experience from other users before I try. Maybe someone with a similar combo of drugs.

Thanks for your replies.

I was on Pristiq, Wellbutrin, Lamictal, when I went on remeron and then went off. I did fine, we did it the way your doctor is stating. I did not seem to have any adverse effects. Good luck to you.
