Wanting help understanding what was appropriate

Totally depends / could go either way.

Hip adductors, glutes, & base of the spine are all muscles found in the buttocks, and are a completely normal part of sports massage & spine/back massage. Hamstrings, meanwhile, attach from the other side (posterior of the thigh, running from hip to knee), and are a totally normal part of sports massage & leg massage.

As a parent, I would not give my child a sports massage. I would prefer to have a professional do it: first, I'm not a professional and would worry I'd hurt more than help, and second, I wouldn't be comfortable doing this kind of massage on my kid.

If my kid needed a massage, I'd want to be in the room at the time or have someone I unquestionably trust present.

Cha. My parents were the exact same way, and back-scratchers to boot (backrubbers & backscratchers almost never mix!); so I had to rely on teammates, teammates’ parents, coaches, physical therapists, & LMPs. Great people my parents, so since massage wasn’t in their skill set, they outsourced it to others. As good parents do, when they themselves aren’t able to give their kids the help they need.

And then either watch & learn, or supervise.

My conclusion is that is totally inappropriate.

There was no intention of me receiving a sports massage.

I’ve been asking some people and 100% say it’s very weird. No parent that I know, except my dad, would even go near the buttocks of their own child. Everyone seems to know that it is crossing healthy boundaries.
