We Need Your Help To Be Sugar Free!!

Hi

Well done to you both for your progress so far.

My mum is diabetic so I was taught not to eat too much sugar. In all honesty the only time I ever really crave sugar is when I'm low and I'm thinking I just dont care. My own personal "sugar" rush comes from fruit. It is high in natural sugars so can actually hamper attempts to lose weight but it gives me energy and makes me happy.

When Russ (fury35912) came shopping with me for the first time before we moved in he was shocked at how much fruit and veg I buy lol. I cook everything from scratch so I know how much sugar (none) and salt (also none) goes into our food.

Woohoo! Don't you love it when something you used to eat now taste ultra sugary?

Homemade is the only way to do it! Isn't it sad that processed crap is in everything you don't make yourself? The other day, I got a ride to the bulk barn and tried to find plain dried cranberries - nope, every type had sugar in it!

Made a raw food cheesecake for my son's birthday and it turned out ok! Ingredients: nuts, berries, honey, and olive oil! No cooking, just soaking and blending and bam, you're done!

Went out to a fast food pizza joint last night with friends. Yeah, I ate the pizza, yeah, I know, the crust and sauce were full of sugars, but I ate it. While everybody else drank pop, I drank water with lemon! The good news is, I did not eat any dessert! I also did not crave the desserts that other people got! Yar! Nobody gave me a hard time either, for not eating what they were!

Funny, I have been doing fine on my 'paleo diet' - pretty close to the letter and doing grapes, cherries and frozen banana while I kill off my surgar addiction.

My body is signaling, saying enough carbs, reduce these and add back veggies.
Ok, so I am going well, am doing poorly getting my big leafy salad thing in me since salad dressing is not paleo.

So I decided, for little while, to add back Italian dressing. I knew there would be surgar in it, but I didn't expect it to taste as (kinda sickeningly) sweet as it does.
Wrong brand - I gotta look for better Italian, or learn how to make my own with olive oil, 'cause am not too fond of "canola" and all those other oils in (I guess) most store bought Italian dressings.

I want savory, not sweet, salad dressing, and the only way I can "look under the stone" of the paleo diet, is by trying it and evaluating. Been doing fish oil caps too, and I still use a little Emergen C (drink) which is also not paleo.

You can easily make your own dressing - just use olive oil, wine vinegar, and season to taste!

Is fish oil helping, James? I have some, but I always forget to take it.

Midi -

That is awesome about not craving dessert! And yes, it is awesome when something I used to eat tastes ultra sugary.

I had another party this weekend....totally eating sugar left and right. Argh! So hard to avoid when "out".

Mary

You know Mary, am not sure if the fish oil is helping yet...

Tend to think of fish oil as a long term suppliment, maybe there'll be noticable gains in a few months? For me its one of those 'doing all I can' things, lots supportive evidence on fish oil, but hey, once again - diet is way personal.

Midi - I wrote down the various seasoning from the back of a generic Italian dressing, am going to get that stuff next month, cause the "canola" and sugar has got to go. Guess I should look online for how much olive oil, and how much wine vinager to use, etc - I'm sure I can get some instruction somewhere. Am one of those who is *clueless* as to what percentages of ingredients to use. Not much kitchen skills here, not *yet* anyway.

Mary, think my increase in feeling calm, stable and motivated lately has a number of contributors, overall diet (seems to really be kicking in now) and healing from surgery, plus getting a bit more aerobic excersise are probably the big ones.

Great thread - good luck everyone, this stuff is super motivating! :-)

Sweetie I love sweets too but they are bad for you at least thats what people are saying. I'm trying lose some weight so i stopped eating junk food maybe 2 weeks ago. It's very hard for me to keep away from the junk food.

Now when I get my cravings i eat carrot sticks or those tiny tomatoes and so far I'm doing ok not craving any junk food , Good luck dear I know it's hard but I know you can do it .
