Weird Ear Problem...

hi guys
I'm a ctrauma sufferer in recovery. I'm 20. I have a weird earwax problem. I never had any problem with going at my ears until at 16 I had buildup and had to get it cleared. Rather than use a syringe they simply did this suction thing to loosen the plug. As a result, the plug cleared and I had this gross thing for a day or two after where big horrible clumps of wax kept falling out of my ears. To try stop this on the third day I used a sort of thin metal instrument to clear it and got the rest of the wax out.

However, since then I always have this horrible feeling of uncleanness in my ears and am always constantly checking them for wax. It drives me nuts! But it's so weird I'm afraid to tell anyone about it.

Sounds like a compulsive behavior. Are they usually clear wen you check them?

You probably should talk with your doctor at least, as fiddling with the ears constantly might not be good for them. Tell the doc your ears always feel full, get them to check it. Ask what the healthy of ear checking for hygiene is. If you find yourself checking more despite the doctors input, try to find a way to keep yourself in check.

I used to q-tip (cotton swab) the shit out of mine. And it got uncomfortable because the healthy layer of wax wasn't able to replenish and so if anything went in, it felt way worse than what it was: just a particulate.

I had to read this a couple times before I'd accept that maybe it was for real. I have had chronic ear problems all my life... and cringed when you said you'd put something (thin metal instrument) in your ears. There are any number of reasons why ear wax develops... my own ears are treated at least once a year. For God's sake don't stick anything sharp in there.

By the way, what if anything do you think this has to do with PTSD?

Well, just a guess, but feelings of physical uncleanness can be related to traumas of various sorts.
