What Do You Love About Autumn?

I don't like this time of year, everything dies off, the days get shorter, and it's cold! I should be like a bear and hybernate all winter, as I always get more depressed at this time of year.

Have you ever noticed that it takes a lot longer to reach the shortest day of the year, than it does to reach the longest day?

Please keep responses to POSITIVE things about Autumn only - the things you love about it. I don't want this to turn into a mutual gripe about Autumnal shittiness and misery (although if someone feels inspired to start a thread in that vein I'm sure I will have plenty to contribute ;))
Just a reminder (as the OP) please keep responses on the topic of what you LOVE about Autumn.

The aim of the thread is that I get infected by other people's enthusiasm for the season rather than add fuel to my bonfire of grouchiness about it.;)

(Feel free to open a 'what I hate about Autumn' thread for the negative stuff)

I love her warm eyes carried over from Summers heat. Red and brunette hair draping down passed her shoulders. She ran her witch like nails along my back encapsulating me into a season of spell. She blew me a sample of her friend winter's chill and spoke.... my oven is wide open. Come eat my punpkin pie babe.

That why i love Autumn

Grey skies.
Rain.
Cool temps
Dead wet leaves.

Early sunsets.

When you can smell the cold in someone hair.

Staring out windows in school watching the weather and the colours. I have clear memories of doing this in grade three as well as university.

How much better coffee tastes and smells when it's cool but not winter cool.

My best fall memories are from university. I'd have a 9am and be on campus by 830. Grab my coffee, have a smoke ( when I smoked), walk across the commons on grey wet days. Listening to my Discman (lol). How alive i felt. A part of something. Learning. Accumulating. I was in my happy place.

it comes at the end of October like it is supposed to.
It starts making itself known around the beginning of September here. I think a short, crisp Autumn into a 'proper' winter might be nice. It's interesting reading different people's experiences of the season.

I am preparing my garden for the winter and trying to appreciate the cycle of the seasons in the process and give myself things to look forward to come the spring.

A customer brought us in some fresh baked spiced apple and custard muffins to work this morning. I'm counting those as 'autumn inspired' ;)
