What do you want to accomplish when you recover?

This is a GREAT question.

I want to help other male survivors of domestic violence or sexual abus...
I volunteered as a Victim’s Advocate for sexual assault and abuse, and met some male survivors of domestic abuse. It was tough, but worth it.

I’d like to finish my degree as well. I’d also like to live with less intrusive, racing thoughts for days at a time. I don’t know if that last one is possible, but I’m hoping.

This is a lifetime condition, to put it mildly, I'll have this forever to one degree or another.

I'd like to become a prolific writer of novels about serial killers. I'm working on my first one and have a series planned. Kind of goes along with what I witnessed as a child. First hand knowledge of it makes for great writing.

How do you become a peer support specialist?

You have to be trained and certified by a state. The training course where I live is 35 hours. I put in an application for the certificate so I could be accepted for the training. After the training course you have to pass a test to be certified. It's also different for each state, because some states want a certain amount of volunteer hours, a 6 month track record showing that you have experience interacting with people that have a disability, etc. It depends on where you live, what you need to get the certificate and what the jobs around you want.

I happen to believe in recovery where it's not a daily struggle, however that isn't the purpose of this thread. If you don't think you will recover well enough to pursue bucket list items, that's fine but I like the idea of having goals. I'm not sure anyone here needs yet another constant reminder that it's an uphill battle. I can tell you that from where I started to where I am today is about 75% better and I have gotten through a lot of hard stuff so I look forward to one day being 99.9% better... everyone has something...
