I still stand to attention if I am somewhere where the national anthem is played or if our flag is marched past. I actually stand to attention when an armed body of troops marches past. Is that crazy or a sign of respect, considering I have been out for nearly four years

It's respect. And sod anybody who doesn't like it.

It's selfishness and greed, Jimmy. With the notable exception of the military and Veterans like us, no one gives a crap about anything or any body but themselves and what they can get. And they don't care how they get it. I'm really disgusted and ashamed at some of the things happening in my country these days. It's getting very hard to find a truly honest man.

Agreed Sarg. And ignorance. Most of the public know f#ck all and care less.
I don't know whether the selfishness is a result of the ignorance,
or the ignorance is because they can't be arsed to look and understand.

Don't worry, I went into hate mode for a year or so and hated anyone in uniform. I know it was not their fault, but I was more pissed at being booted out and left on the street by my mates and hierarchy so to speak.
I am glad I can go to remembrance day and ANZAC day now.

Oooooh, now there is one of my triggers....being at a ball game and the Honor Guard marches out and some teen idol starts butchering the Star Spangled Banner...about half the crowd stands up, but there is always some F#$kstick who keeps wearing his hat and talking to his buddy....of course there is the one guy who was doing that while wearing a "Don't burn my flag" teeshirt. I was so close to shoving my fist down his gullet and removing some of his tender bits....

Ther was German soldier repatriated a couple of weeks past, and they drove through the town past my shop for the service, And I actualy made the kids stand out side and show some respect when they past.

There realy is no pride in this country, unless you go down the "Right wing" "Nazi" route, but that ain`t the same. just a bunch of morons screaming and shouting about shit they know f*ck all about.

The Germans are still to scared to stand behind their Military, as a result of what happened 60 year ago. which is a pity, bcause they guys do a shity job for their country. but then we all know that.

I remember being at a do, back in the late 80`s and nearly getting into a punch up because a couple of tankies wouldn`t stand to God save the Queen, I later had explained to me that 4/7 had been given the Royal right to remain seated when the National anthem was played. I believe 1 reg of only a few.

Eh, it is like the pledge here in the US. Half the kids don't know it and people are always arguing about whether it should have God in it or not. When I was in basic and learning about customs and courtesies, we were told we didn't have to say the pledge of allegiance as we had taken a higher oath. Civics in our country has gone out the window and been replaced with a watered down history and political correctness.

Exactly the same in the UK. I don't understand why the powers that be would do that, unless they want to wreck our countries..

I don`t think its a matter of they "want to Ned", I thinks its more they just don`t know what the hell to do.

Very few politicians are willing to stand out these days and stand for what does the Country good, the last in the UK was Maggie, F*ckin Great women in my opinion. Done us all proud.

Here in Germany its all tip toeing around egg shells, that are all ready broken. Very few countries offer their people anything for them to be proud off these days.

I was brought up to be Proud of Queen and Country, and still am. I even teach my son the same, and also to be respectfull of those who have gone before, even though we live in Germany.
