Selfish tends to have a negative connotation - but like some have mentioned here - putting your own needs/wants first are an important part of self-care. There's no need to place a negative/positive light automatically on something just based on the inclusion of this word.
So to me selfish is simply an adjective - meaning ones needs/wants are placed above others. That's it.
