Must be one of your life experiences ey Ned cocker.

"Bite, Pour, Spit, Tap, Aim,...........now the trick is, keeping the muzzle up so the bloody shot doesn`t fall out. But then that doesn`t matter, because the Frenchy coming at you is on a horse"

Standing around reloading? must of been a Frenchy thing :ROFLMAO:

On a related note, I think the little wad, can I say that, of cloth around the musket ball helps to hold it in place. I have a friend that's into black power and I had the chance to fire a .50 cal. musket. It made me appreciate my plastic M-16.

On another related note, the Chinese used crossbows as well. At a time that predates their use in Europe. They also invented a repeating crossbow. The bolts were, about 6 or 8, were loaded in a slot at the top. It had a lever action so that when the bolt was fired the bow was cocked and the new bolt dropped in place. It's created a period when warfare moved from highly trained soldiers to farmer/soldiers. Great skill in handling that weapon wasn't needed as anyone could shoot it.

Oh, you mean the piece of cotton shit that comes flaming out at 800 fps and lands in the pine needles and sets the forest on fire. I had a .45 cal., percussion cap rifle and we were out having a good time shooting. I fired, turned around to reload and got to talking to my friend and all of a sudden we smelled smoke, turned around a about a five foot swath of pine needles was on fire!

He's jumping up and down on the fire, I'm frantically rummaging around for my extinguisher. Finally found it and got the fire out but it scared the crap out of me. These days the forest service charge whoever set the fire and if it really gets going, you've racked up a million in no time.

Gave the rifle to a good friend of mine and warned him about the patches. He promptly got a .451 ball stuck halfway up the barrel. Black powder baddddddddd!

It always amazes me that the Germans lost WW2 given the military technology that they had. If only a few things had been different we'd all probably be speaking German now. Mache Schnell! OOPS!!
