I have a pillow person my great grandmother gave me when I was about 4. I got this pink one with a sad face and tears falling. My younger cousin got a blue one with a smiley face. Never understood why being a boy was better...

Anyway, this pillow was my savior in dark times. Now I keep it locked up in a closet and associate it with the horror of the abuse. I don't want it in my house anymore but I don't want to throw it away. Any suggestions of what I can do with it? I asked a rescue if they take toys for dogs but this doesn't fit their guidelines. I'm attached to it but I want to let it go. Make sense?

Change it? De-stuff it & twist it into a rope or braid or rosettes? Clips little confetti pieces, add to other snips of fabric from other times in your life in a clear ball to make an Xmas ornament? Use it to line the inside of purse, clutch, wallet?

Just thinking that deconstructing it, and repurposing it might be cathartic. Let's you keep it instead of throwing it out, at least for awhile longer; but fundamentally changed, by you, into what you want to make out of it.

I was going to suggest a funeral pyre, but @Friday beat me to it. If you go that route, be sure to include an appropriate level of ceremony.

I've had a couple of things like that which came to me when my mom passed. I gave things like this to people who were close to me, in one case I gave something to my therapist to dispose of- I couldn't bear to do it myself. I also have a couple of items in a box. Locked. I CAN pull it out if I so desire but I keep that under lock and keep and the box hidden away.

I like the idea of re-purposing it. Make it into something positive. Or maybe just keep a small bit of the fabric and figure out how to get rid of the rest.

OH! yeah.. you know... put in a locket. A small corner. along with a picture or put it in resin in the form of... I dunno a flower but that way it's not something you will lose but it's not in the same form and it's really preserved.

Yeah. That's exactly what he said. So routine; ceremony; which is tradition; which is routine just on a larger scale. Mine is constantly searching for safety in routine.

Were you abused by the person that gave you that as a present? And yes to give you a stuffed toy that simulates pain and your cousin one that simulates happiness sure does point to some kind of message, could have been done intentionally.

There are many many many things that abusers and pedophiles do intentionally to zone in on their intended targets, to zone in on their intended victims, to zone in on their intended gender. It is a sick world such pedophiles live in that is for sure.

I usually do not have a problem to throw something in the trash if I associate it with abuse, or give it to Goodwill.

In our world we are going through so many visual demonstrations of males that think that women are worth a lot less then them. Such males are sooo disgusting, they think nothing about abusing women verbally or physically and I know one thing: even though I have not been in the dating scene there is nothing more of a turn off than males that parade around thinking they are worth more than a woman.

Wait, that is not true, there is something that is more disgusting: the women who actually worship those loosers.......
