When Flashback Comes

I am writing it down and hope it will help myself going through the difficult time.

When you feel like a flashback is going to occur,
  1. You need a safe place to hide and feel safe, don’t bring anything that might hurt yourself, no one is going to hurt you, you can lock the door but you are not trapped, remember.
  2. It’s OK to go through the flashback, don’t panic and don’t fight. It will pass.
  3. Don’t close your eyes, you don’t have to fight with yourself in the head.
  4. The more you try to control, the more you are struggling, and they will come back sooner.
  5. Try to keep your eyes open, you will feel safer when you see the objects around.
  6. Mirror can help you but might also bring up pain if you aren’t ready to deal with it again.
  7. Follow your heart, but sometime you have to be strong
  8. “Scared is what you’re feeling. Brave is what you’re doing”
  9. Please tell her that it is not her fault, repeat it again and again, until the flashback is over
  10. This too shall pass.
If you feel trapped in the flashback,
  1. That’s okay, she is okay, this is not your fault, repeat it again and again
  2. Focus on one object, not just look at the object but thinking about being trapped, but to think about the color and the shape of the object. Touch it, it is real.
  3. Call your name (repeat again and again) to let yourself awake.
  4. Look at the calendar, what is the date of today? Think about what you did today, yesterday.
  5. Things are in control now, you are safe now.
  6. It might take a while for you to feel real, but it’s okay
  7. I know your mind now is full of negative thoughts now, but they will be gone soon
  8. You try to touch your right hand but you don’t feel it, it’s okay
  9. Keep telling yourself that you’re safe
  10. Okay okay okay…
