Hi all. Just wanted to post a short introduction before I start to browse the threads. My husband is medically retiring from the Army (ankle and heart) and is in the process do being diagnosed for PTSD. He has been on 6 combat deployments (I've supported him through them all) - his last being Afghanistan that really threw things into a downward spiral.
I always had an inkling that he had PTSD, but never looked into it as I had to focus on just surviving day after day trying to do everything on my own and to keep things peaceful so he wouldn't get overly stressed. Now that I am researching it makes total sense. From my small view, I always assumed PTSD the soldier was consumed with nightmares, and startled at loud noises (neither of which my husband has). Boy was I wrong! He has so many other symptoms that I was unaware of before.
Just writing that was so freeing. I have been so overwhelmed over the years (at least 7!) and it is great to know why (or at least where a majority stems from). I look forward to the progress he makes and will still stand by his side, but this time armed with knowledge.
