Oh well done public! Now authorities are warning against panic buying of pet food. ..sigh...

my vet clinic is inside a pet store and that panic buying has been happening to some degree for a while. At least where I'm at.

My job at the clinic has gotten insane. Not blaming anyone, it's just how it goes. Every day there's new rules and challenges. We are doing a lot to increase social distancing but that's put a lot more work and made dealing with the animals more complex. We take the animals at the door and take them in the back while the owners wait in the car. And we have had to communicate to everyone about our new process. And people are also wanting to stock up on meds, so folks are coming in to do that. Or they want us to ship the meds which we can't do (we are directing them to avenues that allow them to have them shipped). Then there's being down in staff because people are sick and trying to accommodate pets that got turned away from other clinics that had to shut down or cancel their appointments due to sickness/covid exposure etc. People are wanting to know if we are still open. Some haven't gotten the memor and want to know if pets can get corona. It seemed like the phones never stopped ringing. As mentioned above, we are inside a pet store and the stores hours reduced which meant that we had to reduce hours. That means that there were patients we had to reschedule. And then we are trying to stay on top of extra cleaning while juggling all of that. All of our staff is stressed out and overwhelmed.

The WHO has delivered a warning for young people to stop being so complacent.

Young people, with no health issues can and are dying from covid19.

I don't know where the idea sprung up that it was all ok if you're young and healthy to just let the virus infect you and get on with life afterwards.

The stats are 38 % are needing ICU and 30 % are infecting other, potentially more vulnerable people. (ABC news 2103/20)

The mortality rate for this virus might not be so steep in young people but a couple of things to remember: we don't know the long term damage this virus may do to the human body - yet; we don't know the re-infection rate or whether a one time infection gives long term immunity.

I am with you @Sideways - my sympathies I didn't realise you had a family member sick from covid19 - I'm so sorry for your loss.

I fear those of us, (me) with many loved ones in the later years of their lives, with all sorts of health issues, will be lost unless we can bolt this thing down and prevent its spread.

We have so many care facilities already fighting the typical influenza and other community transmissible diseases.

My elderly aunt who treks daily to see her husband who is very unwell and in a care facility, cannot see him anymore. She has now been denied access to the whole institution because of covid19. She is so distressed and so is he. 65 years of marriage and now, in his last days, she cannot sit by him.

I don't know why people are lounging together down at the beach without appropriate distancing at least? :wtf: do they think?

Made me feel more hopeful that a sense of normal will return soon

I don’t think this is necessarily true, given that China is under communist rule and they were able to lock down the region in ways that aren’t feasible in a democracy.

Who cares about weird?

Exactly. Don’t not do something just because people may think you are weird. Who cares if people think you are weird? It may save your life AND the lives of countless others.

I would go out and buy tonic water. It has quinine in it, you can buy it everywhere and it can't hurt.

Supposedly you’d have to drink 20 L of tonic water a day to get the same amount as the medication. That’s a lot of tonic water!

We have a curfew now from 11pm to 5am every night until further notice!

But your beaches still aren’t shut down? Florida cares about 2am looting but who cares if everyone on the beach gets sick? ?‍♀️

Yep! And kitty litter! Chewy is wiped out of Tidy Cats. Good thing I stocked up on a Black Friday sale. I should order cat food soon though as my cat is running low.

Edit. The kitty litter is back in stock! But yeah, people are going to hoard pet supplies, too.

Same reason.

Police are busy, so petty crime by idiots -and by bored kids outta school- is ramping up.

An increase of petty crime will also see an increase in violent crime / violent self defense as the idiots&kids are surprised by the home owner/business owner/passersby and people are getting into physical and armed altercations. Which also means an increase in emergency medical calls, right when EMS is already stretched to the hilt. Which will see an increase in preventable deaths, as EMS can’t be everywhere.
Right which is why I'm.going into passive mode as much as possible when I'm out. I've had several incedents already, mainly rudeness. I choose to turn the other cheek as much as possible.

Especially here in the forums too. My little second home. The mods here do a good job and, I have done a good job Because in the beginning, I.decided I.wouldnt get kicked here because I need this.

So I'm here still and it's a blessing to have people to interact with and I don't have to catch anything lol.

But snippy behavior and fighting are common, I for one tend toward it. Fight or flight means just that, and it's evident sometimes in my feelings even when I manage to keep quiet. It's misunderstandings mostly here?

So I try and not respond if I feel slighted, if it gets bothersome, I block whoever it is. Works for me even if continuity is somewhat diminished due to ignored content lol.I have not had to think about this for some time, which means I'm getting better hopefully.

Are your restaurants/bars still open to the public for dining/drinking inside the establishment?

I think restraunts are carry out in a drive thru style only but not sure as I dont eat out nor go to bars. I wouldnt think bars would have customers with a curfew but really not sure.

There's probably an increase in home invasions, which happen more at night. The more crime makes sense, I guess. Just sucks for those of us really trying to not be in the hoard of panicked people.

Many are filling what looks like 5 gallon gas containers. Where are ya gonna go people? We have power. No need for generators. Just makes no sense.

Well, the curfew is specifically central Florida. No beaches here. I don't know if it's the entire State. But I agree, beaches should of been closed when this first started. The same time that Disney closed. That was right at the beginning. I think Orlando may have their shit together moreso then the coastal areas still with beaches opened. Not that central Florida has their shit together in general as food is still, as far as I am aware, a free for all. Instead of limiting the amount each person can buy so that there's food to go around to everyone. But just more together then the coastal areas with beachs not closed.

I saw the news tonight of those f*ckw*ts at our beaches yesterday 25,000 people lolling around in the sun.

Well, most of them apparently were on 'work from home' orders. Not much friggin work going on there I can guess!

I hope their stressed out bosses were watching closely and there's a show cause email in their friggin inbox when they rock on back to their cosy little homes waiting for their pay cheques to land in their bank accounts.

Further, there was a couple of non-english speaking 'tourists' who said in perrfect English?? Duh  They didn't know about the social distancing order. sigh... does my head in.. Where have they been... under a bloody big rock?? Pull their Visas and send them home due to extreme stupidity and selfishness. Their countries need them!

Selfish..selfish...people. I'm not worried if any one of them gets covid19. But I'm seriously pissed that they may take a respirator that ought to go to someone who did the right thing, self-isolated, social distanced themselves and still got it because there were so bloody many of these f*ckwits who didn't. Or, they decide to go prancing around somewhere else and infect somebody who is actually working or doing essential stuff.

It's purely a numbers game at this stage. Omg... give me a bloody gun and I'll take out the 38% (9,500?) that are going to be taking up ICU spaces, hospital staff & all of the resources to keep them alive right now, because they don't care, so we can dispense with all of the whining and drama that's going to fall from their idiotic selfish mouths when they get it.

Hang your head in shame you sh*theads! Geese - nobody will appreciate their tans one little bit when the health minister invokes a curfew because he's got to do something to try to protect people from themselves.

Just an observation on death rates etc. The only way to actually calculate the death rate from an illness is to create a fraction with the number who die on top and the number who get sick on the bottom, then multiple by 100. Here in the US, we have no idea what that bottom number is because testing is extremely limited. There will probably be some time down the road when they come up with a number that's based on good data, but anything you see now is someone's best guess. (If it's even that.)

So, if you only test the really sick and the really famous, chances are the numbers will be skewed.

On a totally different note. I'm boarding a horse for a lady who winters in the Florida keys. She called yesterday to see how we were. And to tell me that her husband had heard they're declaring marshal law & I should run out & make sure my vehicles had full tanks of gas.... (She later texted an apology, because that wasn't true. Honestly, I was thinking "you waited till NOW to be sure you had gas in your cars?!)

Anyway, she mentioned that, even though it's spring break, the place where they are is really empty.

I called the apartment office. He said they wont be coming in. Just opening the door to paint the edge and then put vasline on the edges so it doesnt paint itself closed and then close the door. So they wont be coming in and the maintance guy will be right there. So feel better about that.

There are 10 more confirmed cases in the county I live in and 20 in the county I work in. I forgot how many death. 10 I think but may have the numbers confused.
