News Worldwide impact of the novel coronavirus (covid-19)

My friend from Wuhan, China, finally contacted everyone who tried contacting him! He was in Moscow at the time of the outbreak, but his parents are okay. They’ve gotten used to being indoors now. Mostly missing favorite snacks they don’t have access to, evidently.

Made me feel more hopeful that a sense of normal will return soon :)

All 50 of the nation's governors have declared emergencies in their states and 27 have mobilized states have mobilized components of the Army and Air National Guard to assist in their state’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic

Interwebs playing a game to identify legacy media "talking points"... Today's buzz words are "moving at warp speed"/"warp speed":
Yahoo News & MSN dot com articles same name - "Senate Working at "Warp Speed" to Finish Drafting Stimulus Today"; Politico "Senate GOP Crafting New Massive Coronavirus Package at "Warp Speed"; ABC News - "Senate Moving at "Warp Speed" on $1T Stimulus With $500B in Checks to Americans".... just some of the examples.

Something potentially assistive for people who are in Cable One service areas:
Cable One offers $10 Internet service to low-income families/seniors/students impacted by COVID-19

Something funny via twitter to keep it light: "Has anybody tried unplugging 2020 for 60 seconds and plugging it back in to see if it resets?"

Twitter land was retweeting the idea sparked from a radio talk show host who decided it would be cool to "light up the darkness" and promote rehanging Christmas lights. Personally I don't think higher electricity bills in the face of a spontaneously combusting economy is very responsible. But to each their own.

Quite frankly, we're hunkered down just like it's a post hurricane disaster area... I only left home twice in 7 days... once for physical therapy (two sessions to go and heightened screening procedures curb side before hand with a form questionnaire to fill out) and to the ATM and grocery store. Limits on some things but it was interesting to see what all was readily available after being heavily picked over. I'm half expecting to hear chain saws buzzing as mom and I get some UV's on the back porch.

Have to tell y'all… I'm far more concerned for national and global economies than I am about Covid even though 2 of three of us are high risk.

Oh, never thought to carry soap. Maybe a bar in a plastic baggie and some water?

That would look super weird. Thankfully, though, the only place I'll need to go now is work, who has a shit ton of hand sanitizer and my pain dr. Who also have hand sanitizer. So, maybe my little bottle will last?
Who cares about weird?

But seriously - why do you need hand sanitizer to go out in the world? I don't think you're hearing what is being said...
  • Follow the guidelines for disinfecting the high-touch surface areas in your home.
  • Get into the habit of using your sleeve (or a glove, or put a bag on your hand) to touch other high-touch surfaces (elevator buttons, door handles, etc)
  • Be attentive to not touching your face.
  • When you enter a building, first stop: bathroom and wash your hands.
And at work...wash hands when you can, otherwise don't touch your face.

We pick up tons of microbes, viruses, bacteria every day.

Thanks so much! I have a couple real old friends, only friends for the long haul I suppose. I spoke to both over the last few days and got rumors from both. Both were a little scared? My friend called me from SC this morning and he was not good. I can't verify the rumor he told me?

I talked to him about God. I was happy to see that about myself. I went right to it. It's my default and I want it to be. For years and years I thought, "If push comes to shove, I'm with God".

So he was going on like "this is the big one". I said OK, if this is it, which I'm not convinced it is, but if it is, we better be right with God. I know, as much as I can know anything, he is. As Yosemite Sam so aptly put it "Say your prayers varmint". So if anyone wants to talk to me about it, that's what I have to say. If it starts getting like that, I'll look into volunteering somewhere. I'll hope this turns into an opportunity to do that anyway. (Which implies I shouldn't be worried about having enough ammo lol) I said I don't want to be preachy sorry but that's all you're going to get out of me if this is it. He said he felt better and it was fine.

So the rumors are flying around, IDK what to believe. My wife is home and she's staying home for the time being. But she will be out among people helping them where she can as soon as she thinks it's safe that's her. She has always been like that. I've had contact with some people who are afraid. I'm not used to that.

This is why I want hand sanitizer. Its hot here so I wear short sleeves. Not sure how to use the sleeve of a tee shirt to touch things like door handles, elevator buttons, etc.

I do have latex gloves, which I can use.

I did ask my sup if there was a plan if Florida locked down. She said that we are a utility company and so the rules are different for us and what applies to other businesses wouldnt apply for us so no working at home or anything nor any plans in that direction as far as she's aware but will keep us updated.

They told people to sit at every other seat. No one is doing and the same guy that constantly coughs is still sitting next to me!

We also have to now read a script before sending techs out to advise the tech is healthy and has had no onown exposure and to ensure everyone in the house is healthy and has not had known exposure.

ETA: i'm high risk due to my health so thats where the worry comes from.

I'm out , so is here an update from the real world? Whatever's that means. Everyone is around like Saturday. I put some clothes in the Goodwill box (can't do it lol). There are more people at the supermarkets but they're home from work? What're they supposed to do? They are all out walking and driving around. They're were a bunch of guys surfing I'll stop on the way home and check it out.

Edit:. Yes they are surfing and my town is BUSY lol. It's a pretty nice day and everyone, as usual, has decided to take a ride down the beach.

What's unreal about it all is the juxtaposition. The pharmacists were on edge man. They didn't want to be there. Now I'm sittings looking at everyone on the beach, surfboards and stuff . Very disconcerting.

Critical services...first responders, electric/water/sewer/road department/hospital folks, grocery and gas station employees and people who are working in businesses that are still open and can't telecommute can all still go to work. The lockdown is to keep unnecessary travel down to limit exposure but it's not intended to be prison.

Can the cops arrest you if you are out? If the board of health says so sure. I don't think people realize that already happens. There is a virulent type of TB out there and we've had situations over the years when officers have been sent to pick someone up who is infecting others and refusing to isolate. It's pretty rare but it happens. But it's not just cops randomly stopping people. It's when someone poses a direct threat to the community and all the paperwork is done (and that's a lot of paperwork), then officers go out. Cops can't just randomly scoop you up.

So here is what's going on here. The only real big noticeable difference is the commuter rail stations parking lots are empty and everyone is everywhere! Here in my town all the cars are parked in front of all the houses like on the weekends. It was busy everywhere I went, only one town over but, this is my area and this is the feel I get for what's going on. I'm in the suburbs, all the guys who drive around in trucks and landscape and run machines and work on houses are working. My guy called. Long story big fight with my wife as usual, but he gave me a quote a couple weeks ago, and he left me a message, "lets schedule the job". I'm like "not for the price we were talking about two weeks ago we won't".

Seen something really quite heartening. People in my city are mobilising to create teams of helpers for every single road. It's a big city! Joined a group for my area, just seen a woman with Elhers Danlos who's isolating asking for help get help within minutes.
Love that.

In this state, you could stay home and draw unemployment. It's too bad they aren't doing that everywhere. I get why your company has to keep operating, and, apparently they can't set it up so people can work from home, but it would be nice if they looked out for their employees who are more at risk too.
