My employer is holding a vaccine lottery (upload your vax cert for entry) for their employees… with some seeeeeeerious prizes attached. 10/50/100k prizes. All told, something near 2 million.

Anyone else’s company doing similar?

Yes, several hours of paid leave for every vaccination, prizes ranging upwards of 500 bucks on up to "so big we won't discuss it or announce the winners of it because it is basically medical info and we don't want to cause undo attention for the recipient". The super secret unbridled philanthropy card has been played. You know you want in this game and if you (we) win we will keep it quiet so all of your friends in vaccine/covid denial won't hate you for selling out.
I am on my eighth dose, going to go to Mardi-gras and Burning man if I win And everyone will wonder where I got all of the neat stuff.

This! my sis is immunocompromised. So she wears a mask and has asked those she works with to wear one. Their response? Not their problem. She can wear one if she wants but they won't. Even with the mandate.

Ya. They are perfectly comfortable telling her they won't be inconvenienced to help save her life. Boss was also annoyed that she wears a mask to work with customers because it "sends the wrong message." She has had so many people say "well you should just quit then." Ya, like that's an option for a single mom who lost her apartment because her landlord raised her rent during the pandemic. And even her kid has been told by other kids he can't wear a mask in their house because "parents won't let him" So finding someone who says "I'm not on board with it but I'm happy to help you if you need my kid to wear a mask" is pretty rare.

It's infuriating. She did get the delta variant (because the vaccine doesn't stop covid, it lessens the symptoms - just like the flu shot) and docs were very clear that if she hadn't had the vax and been super careful it would have killed her.

I really didn't want to get the vax because I have a history of reactions to everything so I had to do a ton of research before I did - and the risks of the vax are way lower than the risk of my blood pressure meds, birth control and even some allergy medicines! Those can all cause blood clots at a much higher rate than covid vax - yet people take those without even thinking about it.

That's the part that just bugs the crap out of me. People who are already taking meds that come with warnings that there can be fatal reactions are the same people who are just sure covid is poison.

Yep - because nothing is 100%. That's acknowledged. So you have to weigh the risks and benefits. But it is so political here in the states that no one can get past their "my rights' crap. Even Trump finally admitted he got vaccinated - but his people boo'ed him off the stage a few weeks ago for suggesting they also get it.

Basically it's no longer about if the vaccine is safe or not for us
It's about the anger that's been simmering under the surface for along time - and this just happened to be the flashpoint. And that's sad - no matter which side of the discussion you are on

They are willing to wear pants to protect us, but laugh at us when we wear masks to protect them......
Again I say, masks are nothing compared to the unending drudgery of wearing pants to protect other people. Don't get me started on bra's........No really. don't get me started. never worn one never will. I leave that choice to the women I know and believe me, I am ambivalent about bras but thankful for the masks ladies.

I think for me the road from being very aware of the brainless arguments against the vaccine to where I am now, not caring and not willing to even try to stop the tide started the day I was shown videos of people (lots of them) putting refrigerator magnets on their arms where they had just been vaccinated and claiming that they had been given a dose of mini microchips, Why else would they attract a magnet?
having played liars poker but being without a deck, I pulled my drivers license from my wallet, gave it a lick and stuck it on my forehead. Since then no one wants to show me videos or argue vaccine, and I don't really want to anymore anyway.
Those same people are looking at mandatory vaccine now. I hope they are true to their statements about no vaccine, never ever. I also hope they get to work the drive through in their new careers, because yeah, I do want fries with that.

I think people are just over the politics of it and the toll it is taking on hospitals. Right now our icus are 100% full, so if my hubbys in a car crash and needs icu there is nowhere to put him...because it is filled with people who didn't get the vaccine and now are dying of covid -- something they could have prevented.

The pandemic was handled wrong from the beginning in America. In my state we've had outbreaks of whooping cough and measles because we have a lot of anti-vaxers. They have the right to not have their children vaccinated and I think they truly believe that there are no consequences to having the disease. It's natural. So is oleander and that will kill you. There are more side effects to measles than there are for the measles vaccine, that's why there is a vaccine. Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) Vaccine | CDC.

The general public doesn't understand that medicine is not a matter of black and white, it's weighing the risks and benefits and deciding which risks and benefits you want. Every prescription is dispensed with info of risks and benefits, but I doubt they get read. If you are taking any meds, are you making an informed decision or are you trusting your doc? One of my docs (who I no longer see) told me the covid vaccine had microchips that they will use to control what I buy. Hmmmm.

Too true. Everyone is REALLY angry here. The thought is that you should support your neighbor's right to vaccine freedom even if you don't agree. That is how presidents drum up backing for war. Support our troops!! Then you support everything the troops do. I'm not going to support them in their idea that Covid is just a government lie to make us wear masks, although the person with the huge sign in their front yard saying, "Covid is a lie" took it down. Also the sign on the highway "fake president, fake virus, fake news". Do they really think there are enough government employees to keep watch over a rural small town community? Or that they would want to? I read on Facebook that many people believe the government is trying to keep them from prepping. Why would the government do that? The government recommends having a supply. If the government is watching, which I sincerely doubt, it's because of all the talk of civil war that's coming. It was supposed to have come already, I guess I missed it.

I had to leave a vet chat group I was on for a while because this is all they talk about - how the civil war is coming and do they have enough weapons/ammo/food/etc stored. They are taking it VERY seriously and they have tied it completely into the covid issue. It's really scary to be honest. I think it's one disadvantage to having things like vaccines - people forget what it's like to have disease run rampant thru a community, so they don't realize how bad it can get. Even the hospital system being overwhelmed doesn't click for them - until the moment someone they love needs an ICU bed and can't have one. Which just leads back to "the government" doing something wrong rather than their personal choices leading to a specific outcome. It's both sad and terrifying

I think as far as vaccinations go, I've had mine (requirement for work obv), but I don't actually give a shit what other people choose to do. Things like travel restrictions if you've not been vaccinated have *always* (my whole life) existed, like I couldn't move to Brasil without a yellow fever vax certificate, so people seem to forget that vaccinations are mandatory for certain things, even pre-covid. So do whatever with your own body, take the vax and risk future potential side effects (I'm not worried, but I know people are), or don't and risk being restricted from certain things (Like travel.. that has always, to some places, been dependent on vaccines)

It makes no difference to my day to day life, especially since vaccinated people do still spread covid, so I don't think we will manage to eradicate it, just hopefully vaccination reduces risk of being seriously unwell (Like flu jab)

And as far as ICU goes, that's a risky argument to get into.. So, if we say anti-vaxxers shouldn't get ICU for covid, what about smokers/drinkers/drug users/obese people/people who don't exercise/old people/etc etc. Everyone puts themselves at risk in some way to some illness IME, very risky to get into an argument about who deserves life saving treatment.

So today I read an article about a hospital in Spokane Wash that is having to put elective surguires on hold becuase they are being overrun by patients from Idaho (right next door). Idaho has no covid restrictions in place -- strictly "personal responsibility" so of course covid is thru the roof, they are out of icu beds and they are now farming patients wherever they can send them. The doc said he had to tell one of his own patients with a brain tumor that he had to wait for treatment until covid was under control

They are also getting calls from as far away as texas (also no covid restirctions) For those who aren't sure how big the us is? That's like a doc in Southern Italy calling a doc in London for an icu bed.

Everyone puts themselves at risk in some way to some illness IME, very risky to get into an argument about who deserves life saving treatment.

Sadly this is already happening in the US. Doctors in several areas are in "catastrophic mode" and are now having to triage who gets care and who doesn't based on their chance of living. So ya. Some poor ICU doc trying to keep people alive now have to decide who lives and who dies. My heart breaks for them.

Yeah, Glasgow has been turning away people/ambulances at A+E cos no staff/beds/shits to give. And uh.. hasn't it *always* been a thing where docs decide who lives and who dies? Like DNAR forms (No not always the patients decision, or even something they're aware of), how long they'll make a resus attempt for.. etc etc. And let's not pretend that hasn't *always* been based partly on beds. More obvious right now maybe, definitely more publicised. But also, not a new thing.
