When I was young, our presents were wrapped in brown paper tied up with string.

Whether christmas or birthdays, they mainly consisted of things we needed such as clothing or shoes. Toys were rare.

If you remember Angel Hair for trees. My mom loved the stuff(do they still have it?). It was finally woven fiberglass that looked kind of like a web when you first pull the polyster or cotton apart. It covered the whole tree. If you were unlucky, you got little slivers of glass stuck in your hand.

I could get 3 regular sized chocolate candy bars for 25 cents. I'd get a Hershey's chocolate bar, a Three Musketeers bar and a Snickers bar with my weekly allowance of 25 cents every Saturday morning.

I remember a gas war between two stations that brought the price of gas down to 19 cents per gallon! I was maybe 8 years old. That was some 50 years ago now.
