Your Best Excuses For Therapy Sessions

Friends know. Work just knows I have a meeting. Family don't exist but would be again ' a meeting'. No need to lie or be ashamed it IS a meeting.

Medical appointment! The most work has heard is it's for an ongoing medical condition. I totally agree with your right to your privacy, though it can be really tough. It was only a few years ago when I was at home for a while that I point blank told my mum that I had to be somewhere, no she couldn't know where or why. Took a long time to get to that kind of assertiveness.

Not sure if this fits better here or in the social forum.

What are the excuses you use to...
I wish I had this trouble. I have to watch out for talking about my therapist like he is my best friend, when I am meeting new people. Because my therapist is one of 3 people that I currently talk to. He's like my lifeline to the world. "Mike says this, Mike says that."
Generally (luckily?) I have no one to explain it to.

I have a touch of sciatica so sometimes I say I'm going to the chiropractor. I'm also a fan of acupuncture so sometimes I say that's where I'm going, because it's something you can do all the time or almost never, it's up to you. It's also wellness-oriented, so you don't have to field follow-up questions like you do about the doctor sometimes ("Oh no, a doctor's appointment? Are you sick??" etc.). All three offices are within a few blocks of each other in the same neighborhood in my city so if I run into someone from work on the train it makes sense to them (we're all always recommending our chiros and yoga teachers and acupuncturists etc to each other so they know I see these people).
