Ocasionally when I take zoloft as usual, even though I ate earlier, it causes very painful stomach ache for me and burns sorta...

Any ideas what to do about this?

Do you mean Zoloft sertraline? Because I believe stomach aches are one of the common side effects.
I take it too, but I've always been sensitive to stomach aches so I can't really tell if I get that side effect, too.

I often get a bloated stomach which really puts a strain on my abdominal muscles. With stomach aches like that I like to lie down with a hot water bottle on my stomach. I think it increases blood flow and helps your muscles relax. I usually feel a lot better after half an hour of that.

How long have you been taking these meds?

Edit: with the more burning stomach aches drinking milk kan also help.

Oh, bloat is a common thing also when taking this...

Hmm, I mainly take it in th evening, so I somehow fall asleep or don't, but at some point it stops.

I've been taking it for months now, I guess

Like heart burn? Where is the burning sensation?

When I took Zoloft it did cause me some stomach issues. Any time the dose was increased it caused me stomach upset. But it always settled down after 2 weeks or so, once my body was used to it.

Try taking a Zantac if it's really bad. I would speak to your GP or other doctor about it. They could give you stomach tablets or try a different antidepressant. Could it be stress (or is it like as soon as you take it, it happens so it obviously is the meds?) I tend to get stomach upset and heart burn when I'm in high anxiety for too long.

It is obviously the meds, unless it's a corelation between me going to sleep. But as the time I take meds varies up to a few hours, and the pain starts within 10 minutes from taking meds, I'm pretty sure it's the meds.

It started recently, though I haven't had a dose change.

Well, like, everything from stomach and up simply burns.. Sorta a similar burn to really strong vodka I guess, but worse and lasting

I had a lot of issues with Zoloft. Stomach always upset, IBS constantly, but don't remember stomach burning, like you said tho... something the med is doing to your tummy. Hope you get to see your Dr soon... Do you feel it is helping you Sael? I was put on Celexa after Zoloft and so far no side effects and have been on it for months now... Hope you find something that helps in the meantime... Maybe taking Tums or an antacid with help...

Ok so I would say that's heart burn indigestion. My aunt is on a lot of meds and they made her stomach really bad she even thought she was having a heart attack one night (and she should know cause she's had two) because it was so bad. The doctor prescribed stomach tablets and she's always been fine since. The only thing with taking them long term is that they compromise the body's ability to absorb vitamin b I think it is. Don't quote me on that.

I would go to your pharmacy and get zantac or nexium or what ever is available where you are. Take it with your Zoloft and if you don't get the upset again you know what it's is. Go to your doctor and they will know the best thing to do.

I wouldn't drink milk it can make it worse, humans aren't really evolved for dairy products. But if it's late and it's really bad 1/2 a teaspoon of baking soda in a glass of water would do at a push but I wouldn't do that very often and it tastes like disgusting.

The only thing Zoloft did for me was make me feel like jumping in front of a bus...so, I'd try some otc heartburn stuff like Zantac and such. Hopefully it'll pass soon! Sounds miserable.

Zoloft is helping mentally, it's just that there are some physical countereffects

Last night it stopped for a few minutes but then started again... By antacid you mean formic acid or something to negate the effects of acids?

I will tell my psychiatrist when I see him next

Sorry, this made me smile ant-acid/antacid :)

It sounds like you need something to negate the effects of the acids. Please don't start eating ants :D

From what you're describing it does sound like an acid problem, probably irritating the lining of your stomach and maybe causing reflux. When can you next see a doctor. There are over the counter remedies you should be able to get, but there are also things that can be prescribed that might help.
