Going From Prozac To Zoloft

I started Prozac 2 weeks ago. The side effects I experienced were horrible. I know all these meds have side effects but the Prozac was making me much worse than I was to the point where I couldn't leave my house. One main reason I agreed to Prozac was because I know it does not cause too much weight gain. Was wondering if people on Zoloft can tell me how it helped them with anxiety/panic and if they noticed any differences in weight loss/gain?

Prozac is one of the medications with highest average amount of side effects suffered.

I am on zoloft. It helps with depression, though it's most noticeable for me when I go on a test 100mg period. Currently on a 50mg dose, and very mild effects. Expect to feel basically no effects for the first few weeks, But yea, it helps. And doesn't seem to be a weight gain problem with it, though it can help with weight loss. It's mainly an antidepressant, and does very little for anxiety for me, so I will be going to Xanax also soon.

Sometimes it takes a bit of testing to find the right medications.

Also, just as a thing regarding side effects. When I started Zolpidem, first 2-3 times I had serious side effects, and even ended up in ER; but afterwards they were gone, so might be useful to provide info regarding which dose you started at, if you go in too roughly, side effects are very likely. Takes time to adjust.

I have been through"trial's" of every drug A-Z. Nothing worked on a long term basis, all gave me horrible side effects, ending in several hospital admissions. When on Zoloft I gained weight
Now I am severely underweight. Am off all the psych drugs for good
I am too sensitive to them

zoloft hasnt helped with anxiety much, depression yes. im at 100mg dosage. any weight gain has been stress eating, replacing my drinking with food.

As for side effects, have you spoken to your Dr & asked?

Everyone reacts differently to every drug. Most packages contain a leaflet describing common side effects & rare side effects. Also you must be really honest regarding any non prescribed, illicit drug's & alcohol intake if you are taking any & how often.

Also, please ask for regular blood tests whilst on these drugs. And, I might as well mention, make sure you have told your Dr of any physical medical conditions you suffer from.

There are serious consequences to mixing your 'poisons'.

So, as I have learned; question, ask & remember you are in control of what you agree to take.

So, I cannot tell you what you are likely to experience as side effects. Nor, can I predict if any side effect outweighs the possible benefits.

But, please be informed.

Thank you for that information, Blackemerald. From what I'be been reading, it may be several weeks before I can expect to see something change. Also the side effect sheet is enormous! lol..looks like they wanted to cover all their bases! The possible combinations of medications for ptsd is mind boggling,...feel like I may be at this for a long time.

Yes, I speculate that the pharmaceutical companies make the possible side effects to cover every possible angle for liability purposes. But it could also be because they really cannot predict how one individual may react to their drug. So they just list almost every possibility.

So, keep a small journal on what you notice happening & take it to your Dr.

Some drug side effects do not manifest in the short term either & be aware of this as well.

So it's really up to you to not just take them without ensuring you do the homework on them.

But, I do hope that you go well on what you are prescribed.

Depends on how you deal with increased sense of "activation."

SSRIs for me have caused anorexia and worsening depression due to not eating. Sexual side effects didn't help.

Zoloft for me was nothing but fatigue and chronic pain in my back/spine.

Prozac works best for me, historically, but in recent years, works great until Day 3, when I have a chronic anxiety attack and have to get off it.

I already have some fatigue from my adhd drug, (guanfacine), so don't need more of that. A sexual side effect is gonna be a huge problem. The wife will not be impressed. Thats probably the least desired side effect.

So, the combination may not assist. But, you may not get this, or not notice as some side effects are subtle. Please keep in touch with your Dr & try to keep your wife in the loop if you find your libido crashing. If she can help you identify changes, good & bad this will help heap's in assessing the overall effectiveness of your treatment. It may also help keep your relationship steady as you undergo medical treatment. She will feel more included which is vital to your treatment and healing journey.
