Fainting And Panic

Hi everyone,

I have vasovagal syncope and panic attacks. I was wondering if anyone else had similar issues, and if so, how they deal with it? It's as if I will faint with any sort of stressor lately, and it's getting unbearable. I worry about fainting everywhere I go, and am unable to push it to the back of my mind. I try breathing exercises and mediations which help a little, but sometimes the anxiety just progresses to a black out. I currently take inositol, and xanax only as needed, which is typically when these episodes occur.

Thanks!

Has your vasovagal syncope been thoroughly investigated? If it's being caused by hypotension, there could be a number of factors, including dietary, that contribute to making it worse.

Not really, the cardiologist had said there was nothing that can be done other than hydration and avoiding things that trigger it (which can be just about anything lately), and I get white coat syndrome whenever I go into the doctor, so my blood pressure spikes! Otherwise, lab work is always normal. I will be talking to my primary care about it, but cannot get in until August, so I am just hoping I can find ways to cope until then. Thanks for the response!

Try keeping a pretty thorough food journal for about a week, and look at whether you are getting multiple other soluable forms of inositol. Check your magnesium too. You might be doubling up on things that lower blood pressure.

Hydration is actually super-duper important for a number of reasons. If you can get a bottle you can refill and just take a swig from it regularily, it will help.

No one seems to know the absolute answer on water...I have vasovagal syncope and when I drink a minimum of 3 liters a day, it's much more under control.

And do make sure you are getting some salt (this usually isn't a problem in America, but the food journal will tell you - and if nothing else, it will be very useful to your GP when you see them in August).

Thank you joeylittle! Your advice is all something I should do, and a good reminder. I really need to keep a log of my meals again. I didn't think of too much magnesium being a culprit either, which makes sense because I did have an episode last week after taking an epsom salt bath, so I will definitely check into that as well! Thanks, I feel just a little bit better about it knowing there are small changes that might help.
