I Don't Know What To Do

My husband has had severe anxiety disorders his whole life which limit his ability to function (never had a job etc) and also has CPTSD, having nightmares, flashbacks, and being on hyper alert 24/7. About 7 years ago he went through some awful circumstances that completely exacerbated his illnesses and since then has been completely isolated socially only having any meaningful contact with myself and my mother who lives with us. He was on Cymbalta for chronic pain and was so much better for two years (although now he doesn't see it that way ).... Until he had a major panic trigger while getting medical tests done and gave everything medical up, that was about a year ago. Since then it's been downhill. He's talking to himself now (sort of tics like...f*** off and go away and NO comes out randomly throughout the day). So I'm left trying to help him function with whatever I can get over the counter. He is always worse in the winter...with the chronic pain and inflammation which all seems to coincide with worse mood swings... And he's telling me now that he "won't make it through this winter."

We've talked about Ibogaine as a potential treatment...I'm wondering if anyone with PTSD has used this with any effects (good or bad). Seems kind of scary but at this point, anything is better than nothing. Most of the documentation out there is on addiction treatments. He drinks, but that's simply self medication, not alcoholism per se. Open to any ideas. I just don't know what else to do.

We've talked about Ibogaine as a potential treatment.

May I ask why? Im thinking with its psychedelic properties, it would make him talking to himself worse:

Ibogaine is not currently approved for any medical uses in the United States.[2]Preliminary research indicates that it may help with drug addiction;[2] however, there is a lack of data in humans.[3] Its use has been associated with serious side effects and death.[2] It is used as an alternative medicine treatment for drug addiction in some countries. Its prohibition in other countries has slowed scientific research.[4] Ibogaine is also used to facilitate psychological introspection and spiritual exploration. Derivatives of ibogaine that lack the substance's psychedelic properties are under development.[5]

I dont have personal experience with it but can imagine if he is already talking to himself, why introduce psychedelic-like substance?

He's talking to himself because of the ptsd images in his head that play over and over. Ibogaine has been used as a treatment for ptsd for working through the issues but mostly anecdotal evidence of success. I'm open to any options that might work.

I don't mean for this to sound harsh, because it does come from a place of concern, but have you thought about signing him into an inpatient program? His symptoms sound like they are overwhelming and getting worse, refusal to get help is only going to make him slide even further downhill.
It sounds to me like you need to contact someone who would have the authority to help you put him into a place that can get him some help.
it is not going to get better doing your own research and avoiding the problems
@lostforgottensoul wrote while I was writing this, and I do agree with her thoughts about the Ibogaine

In a hospital for however long he needs it in therapy. Inpatiant = in hospital, outpaitent = out of hospital. Even out patient therapy is needed, at minimual for PTSD!

He won't go to anyone for help. We basically have no decent mental health services available where we live anyway.

When you call someone who has the authority to help you admit him to an inpatient program. They will take one look at him, in the symptoms you describe, and decide he needs assistance, (aka inpatient), whether he wants to or not.
edited: I apologize, I should have worded that better, as it does sound a bit rude, I didn't intend for that at all.
I am not sure where you live in Canada, but there are a lot of emergency mental health resources all across the country

Um I did say he wouldn't even go to a family doctor. Seriously if I suggested him checking into a hospital he would laugh in my face. This is my problem. I need solutions outside the medical community. If you're not willing to help me with that then don't bother posting. I understand your concern but realize that he will end up committing suicide sooner or later if I can't find some kind of non medical help. It's last resort time.

There's no way they would admit him to hospital here against his will. Very unlikely they would do it if he went up asking for it. Hospitals are maxed out here and they wouldn't do him any good anyway...they would drug him up on whatever and he would immediately stop taking it as soon as he got out. Plus never trust me again.
