Abuser V Paedophile: Who Would You Call?

The better of 2 evils, doesn't make it a good choice. Just better than the other one.

It's not like if you choose to cut your arm off, instead of your leg off, that it won't hurt. They're both going to hurt.

Nearly any place that cuts keys via minimum wage employees using a machine, will usually duplicate a do-not-duplicate-key without blinking an eye. If you somehow have a rash of responsible & well-informed key-cutters? Just write down the cut depths, key type, etc. And any real locksmith can cut it for you by the numbers on the appropriate blank without ever seeing the key. (I take every new car key to my fav locksmith and have him write the code down backwards inside my owners manual I keep in my glove box, and dupe that at home. That way if I lose my car keys? It saves me about $200 in them taking the lock out, figuring out the depths the hard way. They just break into my car, which is a snap with the right tools, pull out the manual, and voila. New key 60 seconds later from reading the cut depths. Your dealer also has a copy of the cut codes for your car if you bought from a dealer; show ID and they'll cut a new key for you on the spot.) If you don't know how to measure the depths on a do not copy key, so you can't take it to a reputable locksmith to tell you? Just trace the sucker.

Metal Security keys are -almost always- an absolute joke. It's like locking a front door with a $500 pick resistant / bump proof lock... When you have glass windows, @ ground level. Or a flip lock (canunlock with thumb nail) on the back door. SMH. Pointless.

Almost always, because if you're in a building with metal doors, inset against thick reinforced concrete, several stories up? Then the $500 lock is worth it.

But printing do-not-duplicate on a key? Pfft. Truly pointless. Except to tell you they usually don't spend the money to rekey the locks between tenants, and to get it rekeyed, yourself. Because god only knows how many duplicates are floating about.

@Ragdoll Circus I lived in an apartment building with 7 other apartments many yrs ago. Someone moved in and another tenant told me that this guy was a sex offender. I went to the police dept and they let me look in the book of sex offenders mug shot and names.

What to my SUPRISE..... The older gentleman that lived next to me and my friend turned out to be the sex offender, and not the new guy. Instant trigger, betrayal, shock, anger. You name it, every emotion hit me like a ton of bricks.

We had children in the apartment building and one of the other tenants used to let their daughter spend time in this guys apartment. I was even guilty of letting my grandchildren in his apartment too. He just seemed like a nice older gentleman.

I approached him when he came home and told him what I had discovered, he admitted to it, and told me the reason he never disclosed it was because he knew I had been raped, and he didn't want to upset me.

Many months passed before I would even talk to this guy. When I finally did, he told me the entire story, how why, and why he did. It changed the friendship, and we would never have that type of friendship again. But he wasn't that person that he had been in the past. I believe he had made a mistake earlier in life, and had learned from it.

I totally understand the dilemma that you were placed in. I too would have chosen the ride from the sex offender. Why??? Because he had never hurt you in the past. You made the right choice, even though you feel yucky now.

I would suggest a second key kept hidden somewhere that only you know where it is...

You actually found a use for a pedophile...

I wonder if you could've charged a fee for the small talk?

Sorry, bad jokes.
Glad it worked out for you. And that you now have some alternatives, should you find yourself in a similar predicament in the future.

Edit: "In the furniture" Whaa.....? Damn you auto-spell lol!
