Is cbt ineffective or do i just need a new therapist?

CBT is often delivered by someone who's done a course for a few weeks and is then allowed to deliver it
Not even close. CBT is a very broad term. EMDR is a CBT based therapy. EMDR is by no means, a quickie course and off you go. Even the bare basic CBT for anxiety and depression, general human behaviour, its usually around 50hrs theoretical and needs hundreds of hours implementation to truly master. Some people simply are not wired to the logic to deliver any CBT correctly. Being a therapist does not make you wired to truly understand how to manipulate a therapy on the fly based on what your client is throwing your way. Therapists are not created equal. Therapy techniques are a given. It is the deliverer, not the technique, that makes it good or bad.

I guarantee if you got in a room with Dr Burns with CBT, he would have your brain twisting in directions and different ways to think, before you knew what hit you. 12 sessions with him, as an example, could be similar to a decade of sessions with someone who just doesn't get it.

Does your therapist specialize in trauma? I think that CBT connects better for me when it's framed differently with more of an emphasis on and understanding of how PTSD changes your thought patterns.

Yes, she deals with PTSD however she doesn't always act like she's well versed in it. Sometimes she takes more of a counselor approach. If that makes sense.

Hey thanks for your subjective feedback and personal perspective it really helps. Maybe you're right in a lot of ways I do feel like I have lost a little trust and I could be projecting my own feelings of "I'm letting her down/wasting her time with constant setbacks" but I do feel like the way she treats me is "well we're at our wits end with this and you need to make a decision on what you're gonna do because I don't know". So you've made me consider looking at my part in this.

It might be worth thinking about what you feel is missing in your current therapy. I.e. Are your sympto...
This is really really great advice. I don't think I've ever sat down and asked myself those questions, I have just felt like something is not quite right and an overwhelming sense of stagnation.

So I'm going to do some introspection, and look into different modalities as you've suggested. Because I just really need to get better.

Also your last statement has seriously made my day. Awesome analogy haha. Thank you.

hypnotherapy will work for you but you must trust your therapist.
What a load of rubbish. Experts in trauma therapy highly recommend trauma subjects DO NOT undergo hypnotherapy, because it is highly suggestive. If the person can be hypnotised, it makes the person highly susceptible to flooding that can cause total cognitive overload. It is dangerous at all levels for traumatised individuals and NOT recommended therapy for trauma.

I also agree that hypnotherapy is very dangerous! I had false memories. It's not fun and it takes FOREVER in real therapy to work it out! Suggestion is the worse type of "therapy" in my opinion! And the best way to gain false memories!

As for CBT, that also takes a good amount of time. Or can take a good amount of time. 3 yrs isn't a lot really in my opinion.

I ditch/ignore her until things get bad again

Stop ditching/ignoring her! My therapist is my guide and gauge. He points me the right direction. I always try to do the things he suggests, if possible. His opinion I take on the highest reguard and means the most out of anyone's opinion. I would NEVER ditch/ignore his opinion, even when things are going well! You may want to change that. Which could also help move things along faster.
