I am new to online help. I am not sure if it will help. What I have been through most people have never had to go through. Can someone please tell me if this helps.

Like was said, if you have PTSD it can help.. I have learned so much and grown a lot since I have been here.... hope it's what you are looking for and Welcome.

My dad went missing from a locked facility. He had Alzheimer's. After 3 months I found part of him in a corn field. I have major panic attacks when I leave town and see fields and when farmers are working in them its even worse. I'm stuck in my 3 mile radius town because the thought of leaving scaires me.

Welcome!

In my experience, online support can help. Sometimes it takes a little while to get your feet wet, so I hope you stick around for awhile.

Welcome and my sincere empathies for the loss of your loved one.

In my humble opinion, this site alone is not enough, no site would be.

But along side therapy or professional help it can be a very useful tool and support system. Night's when you may be feeling too isolated, alone or confused, you can read or get feedback fairly quickly.

How do you find that?

Ask. :) or failing, that, read around. Over a 15,000 active members, more than 65,000 discussions, & over a million posts to date.

My situation is pretty rare

One of the rarest of CritA traumas (statistically) is kidnap & ransom. Including all 4 major pieces / subgroups of that (abduction, hijacking, piracy, extortion) crisis management insurance groups estimate K&R numbers at 30,000 people per year. Which is a teeny tiny fraction of 1% (something like o.ooo6%) of all of the life threatening traumas / sexual violence that occur worldwide every year. But that's still thirty thousand people this year alone. That's enough to fill a large sports arena. From one year, alone. Aaaaand I know of about half a dozen active members on this site who've directly dealt with abduction & detention.

That doesn't mean that every CritA trauma is going to be represented here in the forums. But so far? In my few years here, I have yet to read anyone whose trauma history didn't immediately remind me of at least a couple other members (even if they aren't active, their writings are still in the archive).

<grin> We're a pretty huge forum, and we specialize in one thing; PTSD. (In point of fact I believe we're the largest privately held PTSD resource on the web). While our numbers tend to reflect the stats you'll see out in the world (sexual violence & childhood trauma are the biggest slices of the pie here, as elsewhere), we don't have every other disorder or non-qualifying trauma diluting things further. You may not have found the stadium filled with K&R people, but you have found the medium sized town populated with very nearly every trauma history out there.
