What Makes You Angry Today?

South Dakota drivers really piss me off. Merging is not rocket science and those yellow blinky-lights on the corners of your car are not there for show. I've driven in nearly all the CONUS states now, most of Canada and Central America, and even parts of South America and S.D. is the home of the WORST drivers. I can only suggest one solution paraphrased in the words of Bender Bending Rodriguez, the robot on "Futurama" : "Kill all Humans...in S.D."

This house is across the street from my son's apartment. The Mrs. and I had to wait about half an hour for him in our truck on the street across from this house last night. Almost the whole time I was waiting, this was on my mind causing a slow burn of my temper. I so wanted to go up to the house and talk to them about respect for the flag. I didn't because of my unpredictable temper.

There are many houses and businesses with flags in similar condition in my town...

I would have went over and ripped that shit down. It's served it's purpose and they're clearly to lazy to be patriotic.

My rant for the day was going into a store. It was suppose to be a quick trip in and out. But couldn't find anything. Just completely set me off for a few hours, thankfully, I got some of that out at the gym.

I have seen this soooo many times. When I first got back everyone was still waving their little flags on their car antenna that they put on right after 9/11 (remember these?)

One day I nearly beat the crap out of a guy who was getting out of his car and flying one. Luckily I only screamed and ranted at him about how he was dishonoring the country, 9/11, and every person who had ever served the country by flying his tattered rag... which he finally removed and gave to me.

Now, if I see a flag like your post, my blood still boils, but I also realize that most people don't pay attention to anything, much less their flag. I also realize that they originally put it up in some moment of patriotism or that they don't know what to do with it once it is in that condition. Most people here in the US think that it is illegal to burn a flag. They also don't know that it is the ONLY proper way to dispose of a flag. So I have gone into education mode on this one. I knock on their door, introduce myself, inform them of the condition of their flag, and inform them of United States Code of Federal Regulations Title 4 Chapter 1, also known as Flag Etiquette, then ask if they would like me to dispose of it for them or help me dispose of it properly. I have found that most (though not all) have been happy to do so...

Same here, see it all the time. Last forth of July, when I braved the parade, young lady had one on the table, she moved something and it fell on the ground. I picked it up and very emphatically stated, "I fought for that flag, would you take care of it, please?". I accomplished my task, she turned a very vivid red and their entire dining party moved.

They just don't understand, having been given everything they want, the flag, the constitution and this great nation means nothing to them. Up to me to edumacate them.

While my blood was evaporating into the atmosphere, I also noticed that said person also doesn't take care of their house...
Weeds
Overgrown growies up the house
Peeled paint
Curling shingles
That sweet, sweet, sunshade...

I have got to remember that it is the general torpidity of people that really pisses me off!

Deep breaths. Really deep breaths.

My advice, get your printer ready!

Here you go:

Print out that brick and leave it on the doorstep....with a note that says something like "From a combat veteran of the United States military"

Additionally, legally, one can file a complaint (or multiple complaints) with local Code Enforcement. Most folks do not realize that most city code enforcers don't do any enforcing against private citizens unless someone else files a complaint. That takes care of the messy property and the assorted local ordinances in addition to the flag issue. Plus you have the right to not live near an eyesore.

Not sure if your neighborhood has a Homeowners Association or what these mouth breathing flatlanders here in the Plains States call a Covenant, but you may want to research that and file a complaint or two with them also.

On the other hand, what if a little old lady lives there? If that was the case I would help her out in my spare time. As veterans we should strive to help out our elders.

Then again it may be some shitbags living there in which case I'd do the former rather than the latter.

Sludge is correct as usual. I was a former HOA president. You can fly the flag practically anywhere but the covenents usually do not cover whether the flag is in good condition or not, whether it follows the federal standards on care of the flag. Best thing to do is just try and talk to them first. If it does not succeed then go to the HOA, and then the local City Council or code enforcement people. The last resort is the Feds and they will handle it eventually.

I'm really right, but digging up esoteric data to punish the lazy, ignorant and offensive is yet another of my hobbies.

Viking is correct, it is always best to try and be neighborly and talk to them first. That eliminates the solitary elderly person conundrum. Hell, if it was one of them old folks, I'd buy and and install a new flag with a solar spotlight for them.

First the good. Fixed the wife's car last night and this morning. Had to remove and replace the radiator. It's been sitting in the driveway for over a year. I have OCD characteristics that make getting my hands greasy, oily, sticky, etc very difficult for me mentally.

Now the BAD. I've broken out in a rash that itches like crazy today. I've taken some prescription strength anti-histamine to help stop the itching, but it hasn't kicked in yet. I want to scratch my skin off it's so bad. I'm in incredible pain too because of my fibromyalgia. I took prescription pain killers for that too. Any prolonged strenuous work just kills me with pain, during and after.
