I am in Italy and the system in General here is ok. My Italian is not great so best option is private therapy. Makes me angry as I will probably have therapy for a long time and apparently ‘It’s not my fault’ The health care system is similar to the uk. There are psychologists but it’s a long wait and not guaranteed the same one every time. There definitely is a difference between the normal and private care. I am so grateful that I have found an amazing therapist who also speaks English and specialises in the therapy I need but it does come at a price.

I’m American. I’ve had great insurance my whole life, but now I’m on Medicare and my costs have skyrocketed. My new Insurance which is a supplemental policy that fills the gap left. I have a good T his office is not in a community based scaled pay facility. There is no limit on visits for rape related services. If I hadn’t had insurance, I’d be dead now.

I’m in Italy and there is in general a difference between paying ‘private’ or local services. It was local services that re triggered my pts and my Italian is not completely fluent. I have managed to find a great therapist specialising in trauma and who also speaks English! I get 19% of the cost back through my taxes.

In the US affording treatment is a problem, especially for those with insurance, having insurance often means high co-payments that over time cannot be afforded. If your homeless and destitute you can get medicaid and often they cover pretty most care with no co-payments.

My care at one point reach $300 a month and that is just co-pays. On an fixed income from disability. If I was on medicaid I would have no copay.

It is kind of crazy to have a system when there is better access to medical care if your homeless, than if you have resources even meager resources.

@recoveringfromptsd that sounds difficult. A psychiatric doc app here is around €130 and general 1 hour therapy is €70. The same as some other countries I could access state therapy and doctors but you are never guaranteed the same therapist or doctor. Or there is a restriction on how many sessions etc. I do struggle with the fact that I have PTSD because of what someone else inflicted on me and now I am not only struggling with it but I am paying to get better. I feel guilty that we spend a huge portion of our income on my treatment which in effect denies my husband or children for example nice holidays. My husband and I both understand though that we can not put a price on me regaining strength and feeling a little better and be a better mother for our children.
