guys live by homers rules of the playground:

always be sure everyone will agree with you before you say anything
make fun of anybody different than yourself
never, ever, rat anyone out

oops, I RATTED OUT MY ENTIRE SEX! DOH!

(not really)

we are just as multi onion layered as you are ladies, but most of us have been taught to keep only the outside layer in view as much as possible. It cracks me up when I meet someone and ask them a question that might just require an opinion or some open minded thought but what I get back is a pure outer layer response after a second of reviewing homers rules. Men and women of course, but since I talk mostly to men I get alot of outer layer conversations. It's a wonder you even talk to us at all ladies.

I think in my country men are somewhat (but only somewhat) more outspoken than women when it comes to unpopular opinions.... but to be honest most Germans of all genders do not voice unpopular opinions. They first like to find out what the majority thinks.

I often stay awake when vet goes to sleep because for him it currently is much easier to go to sleep like this. When goes to sleep he sometimes whispers “dont-go-away-dont-go-away-don’t-go-away-don’t-go-away-don‘t-go-away“. I wonder why he does this. He was the one who had the habit of sleeping outside the bed not me. Told him so many times already I won’t go away.

I walk and talk in m sleep. Hell, I can be standing and looking and talking to you and you think im awake but im actually not. I say some shit that makes zero sense and the entire time you think im awake and im actually sleep walking. I know that's not exactly whay you're talking about but he's probably not talking to or about you but rather whoever he's dreaming about.

Came across this today and thought it might be an interesting resource (on top of this excellent thread) for those of us trying to understand PTSD better. No matter how much I learn, reading things like this still helps:

20 things you only know if you have PTSD | Metro News

I’m researching more things about what is going on during a period where a sufferer is emotionally overwhelmed. I did the NAMI homefront course and found the information present about the neurobiology behind PTSD fascinating e.g. limbic system and inability to gate sensory input.

@Never_falter2 this article sums it up: How the Brain's Hippocampus Is Affected by PTSD

The amygdala is responsible for the encoding and retrieval of the memories associated with the traumatic events. Interestingly, when someone damages the amygdala, then they don’t seem to develop PTSD. In this sense, the amygdala could be responsible for many PTSD symptoms. In fact, it seems to be associated with many mental health illnesses.

You can thank the first mammals for evolving the limbic system.
