News Worldwide impact of the novel coronavirus (covid-19)

There are no cases in my county. Only 1 in state. ( thankful for that) NBA has cancelled for a few weeks. Tom Hanks and his wife have CoronaV. I can only hope, it goes away as fast as it came on. No one is physically shaking hands or giving hugs that I know of. Even doctors.

So sorry you are feeling poorly. Hope it's not corona virus. Totally sucks to be in limbo....and looking at the possibility of big medical bills and a possibility of slashed income this month.

Careful what you wish for

Under social healthcare, everyone could be condemned to a system that's at least as dysfunctional as the VA

And with no where else to go.

Monopolies have a seriously bad name for good reason

Whether they are private sector

Or (by definition everything) state sector (is a compulsory monopoly).

Another reason why I don't like the European model over private health insurance and care.

Just no, ok guys?

First of all, there is no “one European system” and it’s very much functional in many European countries- it’s also not at all solely government controlled in many countries.

Italy is not one of those. They’ve cut funding to the health system for years - the results of which we’re seeing now.

Remind you of anyone? The US will suffer severely solely because of their health insurance and sick leave situation.

Seen on the news the leaders in Scotland and Ireland and banning large gatherings and closing schools but that's not happening in England. They said something about "we're in this for the long haul, better not to react yet else everyone will run out of steam to continue dealing with it' kind of saying no point in putting anything in place till we have a peak number of cases.

For sure I'm no expert but it sounded like political fob you all off with some generic reason why we are going to do nothing speak. Saying lots of words which say nothing much..

hmmm... seems like this thread might be moving towards political debate. I think we were supposed to stay away from that.

If I don't get my test results back tomorrow, it sounds like I have to wait until Monday. I am still so sick that I'm sort of relieved I don't have to work but also stressed. I don't get specific sick leave, just some general paid time off that can be used for sick leave or vacation, etc. I will blow through that pretty fast. This is a very strange experience for me.

Things that are complicated right now- laundry (I go to the laundromat.), mail (I have a PO box inside a post office) and the inability to go to the doctor unless it's an emergency until my test results are back. Because if I don't have the coronvirus, I probably have a secondary infection and need meds.

Sounds like what Italy did...

Good article on this: Singapore Wins Praise For Its COVID-19 Strategy. The U.S. Does Not

Also, on a different note on this phenomenal travel ban: Trump's coronavirus travel ban excludes the countries where he has golf courses struggling for business

And I'll leave it at that because otherwise it'll become political. ?

@Sideways I hope your mom and nan stay safe! I know the feeling with my grandparents - and my dad, who is in the age group and travels a lot for work.

And to everyone here currently struggling with being sick: Hope you guys get better real soon!

Just no, oor you guys
Actually yes
Since they began, the socialised (synonymous with monopolised, bureaucratised and divorced from customer needs) health quangos have been like any other monopoly

Over priced, dysfunctional and way, way under performing.

Crisis, is punished in the private sector, it is rewarded in the state sector

What is the VA, the British NHS, the various nordic systems, constantly in?

Yeah, you guessed right - equilibrium and bliss, funded to the hilt and no problems at all, the books all add up and everything can be accounted for. No one dying on trollies in corridors, no ambulances driving around for hours before arriving so that people can be seen within 40 minutes of arrival. No nurses or doctors retiring early on a Friday and being recruited on Monday on pension plus salary so that recruitment targets can be fudged, no stfu or you'll never work again for nurses who get raped at work

Its a monopoly

There's no other show in those states

Customers even get their pensions raided (and none of the proceeds can be accounted for) to fund those boondongles

Please separate your hopeful dreams from the Soviet level dysfunction that is the reality that, strangely enough, you'll get each and every time you try it.

The grand pre is cancelled here. They had the decision of running it with no fans or cancelling. I was skeptical about it going ahead and now quite a few members of one of the teams have shown positive results. So it's shut down.

There are many murmurs about banning large public gatherings here especially or targetting in particular our football calendar, our Royal Easter Show and all of the agricultural shows that follow on from that.

I'm finding it very annoying about what the definition of 'personal contact' is. Last night it was being within one metre for 15 minutes of a infected person but then there was a warning about the virus surviving alive on surfaces for long periods.

School holidays are due here in April and there are murmurs to extend those holidays but that's a bit silly. Kids are certainly going to be spreaders but they are not seeming to be suffering too badly. Staying at home means the parents (workers) may have to stay home with them or get older relatives to go look after them. But older people suffer more so that would seem to spread the infection further and into more vulnerable groups. Huh? :banghead:

And who wants their kids home longer for the holidays aaargh!!
