But it's important to remember that she wasn't allowed to sit with the white actors in the audience because segregation was still being enforced in those days. Still, a huge achievement for her in that period of time. So that has enraged a few people too.

Because you're not a police officer, @Mee. You get a call to go to a domestic violence situation. Do you want to know who is involved? (It obviously involves an abusive angry person. Danger!!) Any gang affiliation? Guns in the home? Prior arrests? History of violence? Come on. You're fooling yourself.

I don't look fondly on career criminals. Black. White. Asian. Hispanic. They all suck!

Someone earlier said these cities weren't war zones. (Look at Seattle as we speak). I'm a Detroit girl. Born and raised. So I only know what the crime is like here. Google it and tell me it isn't a war zone. My bff at work lives in the city. She has been married 15 years. 5 beautiful children. Her husband has been a gang member since he was 8. He's 40 now. Her children know to run downstairs if they hear gunshots. They are 8 through 14 years old. My guess is the whole family has ptsd. They all have the criteria for it.

My niece and 2 of her friends created a non-profit for young inner-city girls. They are smart, loving, caring mentors. Doing great work! All of their seniors have applied to college. Do you want to know what the girls want the most? Self defense training. They get abducted and raped in abandoned homes on the way to school. (Arrested a serial rapist last year). Tell me again this isn't a war zone.

Let's face it they (Floyd and Chauvin) were both horrible people. It doesn't matter what color they are. Floyd was bound to either end up in jail (yet again) or die on the streets. It is the life of a. career criminal. He terrorized his community for years.

I'm all for the cause but it is now drowned out by the violence. A career criminal is not the person to martyr.

Research the numbers.
White on white murders.
White on black.
Black on white.
Black on black. ( the highest in the nation, just look at Chicago)

I hate all abusers. It doesn't matter what skin tone they have.

I am not an LEO . I have however worked in the criminal law system.

I worked closely with the perps - in cells , and In Court.


I also am not pro ‘martyrdom’ - I personally choose to have no heroes. Why? Because those with highest honours have often just not got caught or recognised for heinous actions.

Absolutely correct. Segregation was a terrible thing. Have you seen her acceptance speech? If you haven't you should watch it.

A incredible positive moment in American history and civil rights. Soon to be forgotten because no one in future generations will want to know the backstory of a film they didn't know existed.

I don’t know. That’s my point and why I don’t have heroes.

I absolutely cannot day all abusers are sub human or monsters or anything else - in the same way I cannot get behind beatification - because all people are human . THAT is my point.

No abuser - regardless of skin colour - is only his worse action - no good person is only their best .


All are deserving of equal human rights .

As to the movies, and taking down statues of influential history figures, and renaming streets and others, it's pretty sad state of things.

Someone should point these people to the reality it didn't work for the Soviets nor Mao Zedong, places like Rwanda also get called out even if it takes justice a few decades to catch up, and denying the history doesn't really make it disappear...

Adding blood shed to prove a point only proves being misguided, and doesn't make the original cause more respectable... but waay less.

Thank you @Friday for the SDit vs fully trained SD. Having a SD and training him myself, I totally got that. You don't hold the SDit at the same standards as you do a fully trained SD. And if the SDit messes up greatly, as it's trainer and/or handler/trainer, you have to look to yourself and how you can improve the training. It's never the SDit's fault, it's yours as it's trainer.

That said, not sure dogs and humans can be compared like that but still made a very good point.

What I keep asking myself (and I appologize if this was already said) is even if George Floyd was a carrer criminal. Maybe a wanted man. Even if a serial murderer (not saying he was any of this but going to extremes as an example) once the suspect is handcuffed and maybe ankle cuffed if a serial murderer, and before that point, wouldn't they have already patted him down for weapons to know he couldn't pull one on them? Plus, he was handcuffed. Not saying a weapon can't be pulled while handcuffed but it's WAY harder. But once the handcuffs and possible ankle chains go on, you can let the person up. You don't have to have them still on the ground with your knee on them anymore. He was detained already.

Also, from all of my knowledge and experience, I've never heard of knee to neck. Only knee to back. But, my point is, his background doesn't matter when it comes to the police officers' actions. It matters when it comes to remembering him but as for the police actions, he was already detained. So, even if he was this master mind criminal, super bad guy as many are painting him, I don't see how that matters when it comes to the police actions.

And career criminals in custody? To say 'was detained already' misses the point that doesn't make others safe from him.

If you have any videos of that, honestly, would love to see.

What I am saying is there is no excuse to keep him on the ground with their knee on his neck after he is patted down and handcuffed. All real life police experiences I have seen is either pat down the person, handcuff them and then make them knee down, legs cross behind you cause it's harder to get up and run or be asked to lay down at gun point, knee to back, handcuffed, patted down, then let up (and you have to let them up to properly pat them down) and put in the back of the car. Out of hundreds if not thousands of police calls I have seen in real life I have never seen the police officer stay on the criminal after handcuffed and properly detained. It may have taken multiple officers to take down one guy but after patted down and properly detained, they let the guy up. That's what detainining is. It's done for the saftey of all involved. It's done even if you aren"t being arrested for everyone's saftey.

I am making the arguement for George Floyd and against the police officer actions.

^Yeah - we're all really complex little creatures. I agree with that but that's a long way from saying that decorated hero's are perps that just never got caught. People are not heroic every day either but sometimes they do something that calls for acknowledgement. They are certainly hero's to someone. Probably the person (s) lives they saved.

Still don't understand @Mee - a hero can be an ordinary guy who doesn't belong to any organisation or somebody very highly trained. Why would you want to undermine the really special honours that are given to those people?

The George Floyd protests are not really about George‘s murder. The US is not a nation that marches in the streets over every single murder. Frankly, I think it was inevitable this time would come with one spark or another.

The interaction between Floyd and Chauvin may have had to do with more than that one day. Former Nightclub Worker Says George Floyd and Derek Chauvin Had Beef At Work

If George had not been murdered this issue would have sparked somewhere else over some other videotaped killing.

Immediately thinking of - head butts, swings at, throws & shoves of anything around, not even starting on bites if infecting someone with something shiny like HIV, I could go on.

That you don't think of violence & can't even *imagine* the how's further proves the point...

A lot of these discussions about how safe and harmless he was and others like him are completely miss the security viewpoint claiming otherwise.

That whole work thing is pretty contradictory...

One claiming that, other sources they worked different areas of the club or shifts and barely met, who knows.
