Heated socks found incredibly wonderful. When I was a child and young woman I eschewed slippers and would go out in the coldest evenings in the flimsiest shoes - now I love slippers . Weirdly I get warm at night though, where as I used to be cold at night 🙄. The cold and horrid damp weather here also gets into my joints ( how do joints inside know it’s damp? It’s all wet inside???) And my knees and hands in particular are complaining .

I had to take a muscle relaxant on Saturday night - when getting out of the bath looks like a walrus getting out of an awkward swimming pool I know it’s gone beyond. Literally on my belly over the edge and trying to get up from the dryish bathroom floor.

but since then it’s been pretty good. I HATE the mood impact of the muscle relaxant -I find them a depressant weirdly - but this time that I am out of a lot of pain ( I’m sure it’s not usually so effective) has offset that somewhat. It was my last one from a very old prescription though so I’ll have to phone the dr and ask to have some more.

I am wondering if anyone has any good shoe suggestions. I have purchased several pairs of running/athletic shoes in the last year and while the most expensive pair I bought seems to be the best of the bunch, my feet still hurt. I do have high arches and use the Superfeet Green insoles and these seem to improve things across the board, but I'm still searching for a better situation. Does anyone have any shoe recommendations?

Sneakers make things worse for me - which from a biomechanics POV isn’t such a surprise- If your soft tissue hurts - a soft shoe actually can work soft tissue harder ! @frieda might know that one of the preliminary investigation tests for lameness in horses is to see if they are more lame on hard ground ( like a concrete yard surface) 0r soft ground - like a riding surface, grass in winter -

Kinda the same with other animals - Athletic shoes can cushion from concussion skeletal in but the give can make any soft structure work harder with the extra give. While I can no longer walk or stand long distances anyway, when I could I found non supportive / flat soled plimsolls / old fashioned tennis shoes with what ever I needed for arch support ( I had metal inserts ) best for walking and they are what I pack to make the most of any walking ability if I am away from home .

It’s such a touch balance though! I have a lot of skeletal degradation too :( so get pain either way 😂. But I hope ( though I am not sure if guidance has changed on this) that any low level walking I do can only count as a fraction of the gently concussive work it used to be if it’s not still - thought to help bone strength. :/.

Not quite flat supportive leather shoes and ankle boots ( to help support my ankles) also work well for me.

At one point I seriously considered buying some of the barefoot running shoes - but decided the toes on them were a little too freaky for me. 😳😳😳😳

Thank you! I think you may have really hit on the issue here.

Before I tore both of my hip labrums last year, I wore lace-up Durango ropers most of the time (though, I couldn't wear them to work, where the injuries probably occurred)- not because I am a cowperson but because the 1" heel and ankle support helped me to not develop Achilles tendinitis. I felt very stable in those boots.

I was having such ridiculous hip pain that the sneakers did make sense. I stopped wearing my ropers because I could feel every clunky step in my hips. It really hurt.

Those days have passed, and so, maybe I still have some boots in a tote, somewhere?

I have been hiking and walking and I wouldn't wear those boots for long distances but I think I should reconsider them for daily wear now that impact isn't such a big deal.

Thank you for your insight! 👍

I just learned about that when one of the horses started having hoof issues!

I have really high arches too and have a horrible time finding shoes. I finally gave in and went to When The Shoe Fits because we were headed to Europe and I knew I was going to be doing a lot of walking. They were able to find me a couple pairs of shoes that made an incredible difference. I about died from sticker shock, but 5 years later I'm still wearing them and the difference between them and my regular shoes is just amazing.

I am not familiar with that company but I did break down and go to The Walking Company last year and did their computerized shoe fitting stuff. I ended up with some Abeo running shoes and Dansko clogs from that. I spent $160 on the running shoes, and they felt great, but they had only had tread for about 5 months. I was walking on concrete a lot but I had really hoped they would last longer than that for that price. I found another pair of those on clearance for about half of what I paid for the first pair that I still have and they are still good for heavy walking/running. But I managed to unearth the clogs that I have barely worn, yesterday, hoping they will be better for day to day stuff.

I have a lot going on with my body right now, so I may be asking a lot to have reduced foot pain but I am hoping that switching from my cushy shoes to the clogs will help.

@RussellSue - what is the diagnosis for your feet? Plantar Fasciitis?
I don't think there is anything wrong with my feet, necessarily. Last year, I was told I damaged a ligament in my left foot, but I am not even sure that is true. I am having some neuropathy in my left foot from a compressed nerve. My gait has been pretty off for the last year and a half (due to hip problems), as well, and I don't think that is helping. Both feet hurt a lot right now after I suddenly started standing more after I did something weird to my femoral nerve. Sitting down is pretty uncomfortable. I have a doc appointment tomorrow, as it just seems to be getting worse over the last 3 days.

I think I will rejoice that there is nothing wrong with my feet. If there were, I would be really grumpy by now. 😂

I am search of a good shoe right now too. I have been ordering and returning because I can't really shop safely here. The cold and damp weather is making everything worse but this year seems even worse than usual. I am having so many headaches and neck/shoulder problems. I do have disc disease, herniation, stenosis, etc. For myself, I think a lot of depression, anxiety, stress are seeping out. (Trying to stay positive about the entire covid situation).

Note to self
When you stuff yourself with lots of sugar and way to much food over too many days the fibro will respond --- badly.
sigh
You would think I would know this by now!
I wonder if this is why I'm having sooo much pain now. My eating is out of control. Lots of bready stuff - and I'm really supposed to be staying away from gluten.
