Competition Ideas

I'm not so sure a competition is even a good idea! Back when we had our number of posts listed, things got, shall we say, touchy?

Posts always go down during this period of time. Holidays and such. Just don't get a good feeling about including a competition into the forum. If you do it needs to be for some kind of "name that section" contest or why not bring back the dog and run a name the dog contest. But don't make it any type of posting thing. Make it a real kind of contest.

I don't know the big picture without the figures etc, but I joined over a year ago but after a month or so was put off by the seemingly strictness of the site so I left (Please don't take this as criticism just my perception).
Came back a couple of months ago (12 months later) and I can't believe the change aside from the appearance and working of the site but the feel is so much more relaxed and friendly, family like, it's a real credit to you Anthony. The people here and their kind & insightful comments are just unbelievable at times better than I could attempt any how. The readers will feel this too and want to join.
I can't help believe that it's got to snowball and grow from here on it's own merit without help!
Not against "Competition ideas" just my two bits worth,
literally blwnawy

Maybe instead of a competition it could be monthly rewards, like "Most Useless Post" etc...

(Pick me! pick me!)

For some reason this post has upset me and made my heart race. I was hopeless at school, couldn't cope with exams or confrontations. I'm not competitive, if it is a competition I'd feel useless and worthless.
Sorry my failing not yours.
I'll stay clear of this thread

Thought of something, based on "contests" one of my favorite authors runs on Facebook. If the ultimate goal is to generate more discussion/posting, what about doing a "Discussion of the Week/Month"? Perhaps make it a highlight at the top of the page. It could be whatever...examples:
  • Sufferer or Carer related: "What positive coping method do you use most often?"
  • Forum-related: "Which article on the site has helped you the most, and how?"
  • Global issues: "Are you working to become more environmentally-friendly? Why/why not/how?"
  • Chatty: "What is your favorite such-and-such, and why?"
  • Silly: Post a picture of your pet, and caption it like a LOLCat
To incorporate giveaways or prizes, you could enter everyone who posts a legitimate answer into a random drawing for forum merchandise, music downloads, whatever. And you could enter the names of those who post on each and every topic into a drawing for a larger prize after a year. It encourages discussion, but is not based on post count, competition, or a subjective judgment of content.

I can't believe the change aside from the appearance and working of the site but the feel is so much more relaxed and friendly, family like, it's a real credit to you Anthony.
Yes, people don't usually understand that too strict often means less activity, less users posting, less discussion, less feedback for all concerned... hence why it has been progressively lightened surrounding rules and methods.

Too care free or too strict, people don't participate... its a fine line that I have been trying to constantly find to ensure the least on both sides are affected, thus a majority interact upon the site.

How about a competition on who could collect the most souls??? .... I am sure to win bahahaha!
