Looks like a giant squid. She’s wrapping her tentacles around me and pulling me to the depths to protect me—she sees me.

I do different types of art.

Nice work @Hulda!!

Here is one that I’m not sure what it is about but it looks like a whale eye and I’m thinking of Jonah

Ah yes Jonah! …. the one who hated some people so much he would not show mercy. The lesson we learn in the whales stomach! Even after he did what the God of mercy wanted he was upset and depressed. Oh how human we are! Mercy is the key. With ourselves and others and let the end result not be by our judgement but His. They were eventually destroyed but they had their opportunity.👩‍🎨

I have no innate artistic ability. I cannot tell you how I survived my first drawing class 8 years ago. But there are skills. I did not have to be talented. There are steps you learn layer on layer. Water color I took a class and again there were skills and exercises and as I stuck with it and practiced I found it a great expression. I am more of a realist but love abstract. Quilting, I took a class and found an older person to mentor me. Most all of them are hand made which takes time and slower. I do not like the sewing machine. My patterns are from the “old” days. I don’t do that much. I learned slowstitching off Pinterest and YouTube, the little one with the birches. That was a huge leap as you throw your materials on the floor and they just kind of form an abstract picture in your mind. That is the first time, the wall hanging , I really created out of my being. Slow stitching is a form of mindfulness and it is meditative 5x7, 4x6. The reason people shy away or are fearful is they think they can’t or have no talent or would hate it. I am alone much of the time and can go through periods of isolating quite a bit. These things take me away to another place. I discarded many and cut them up into bookmarks. Drawing gets you in touch with your brain and don’t laugh, I can actually feel I am in my right brain. Another thing that takes me away are classic books. I have a list from a guy from England on YouTube called, “Tristan and the Classics”. He has a great video for those just beginning. His recommends are spot on. From Gothic to historical and they are nothing like the movies. These are some of my forms of mindfulness. The triangle butterfly is Zentangles. Instructions on line and in a book. All you need to do is draw lines. No recognizable. Just scribbling with black marker. Easy book. So all of this takes me to an outlet I find healing. And being productive.

Oh no @Hulda yes I threw them out but I mean all the supplies as well. Usually on canvas but whatever I had available was ok. I already threw out anything that applied to me only, and also what I couldnt carry if I had to leave. Different time and place.

No not a perfectionist for that for myself, just knew if I was satisfied or not. I have a sister who's extremely talented so mine is just for fun. I loved to paint, some pastels also but mostly just paint, acrylics and oils. Didn't even need an easel lol. 🙂

Mod Note : I just wanted to take a moment & remind members we also have an Art Thread, here in Social, for what’s not ‘Art Therapy’
