Other PTSD pain revisited by new painful event.

New Here
Long story short, had a traumatic event with car. Car undamaged. I was damaged. I had pain and physical therapy, put the event behind me. Now I have had surgery, im 12 weeks post op. Im having more pain, but today I saw a newsreel highlighting automobile design flaws, (the same thing that traumatized me)..now my brain has taken my post op pain, and is making me feel like I did when I was traumatized. Omg ive never had something like this happen to me. Has anyone else been triggered into a PTSD episode by surgery or injury?

Not surgery but yes injury, and also stomach aches or exercise at times. Personally, I don't think the stimulus of what the trigger is makes a difference on the impact of what the trigger feels like.

And it makes total sense that your body is thinking the pain now is the pain from then. That's the impact of unresolved trauma.

How to manage that particular trigger is the same for all/most triggers.
Do you have things that usually help ground you and bring you back to the here and now?

I would like to look at some type of electroshock therapy, or extreme surgical intervention to erase memories.it must be out there, even in experimental form. I dobt believe in subduing people pharmacology wise. There must be surgical interventions. No one should have to live with this.

Yup. Single biggest thing I have worked on in therapy so far.

Recalled pain from the (as far as we know) first cluster of traumas still comes to visit at times. It's been difficult but (this is going to sound weird) when I call it by what it is and tell it there is no reason for it to be there I can usually stop it.

It is tied to the trauma no doubt, but finding all the events it's tied too has been - challenging, because its tied to a complex event. I have no doubt it will be gone when the events its tied to are dealt with as it has gone from the biggest reason I started thinking it's cause was mental not physical.

I still have to use non prescription pain meds at times when it won't go away but....
