I wasn't molested as a child.
I wasn't raped.
I wasn't in military combat.
I wasn't in a fire.
I wasn't "diagnosed" with c-ptsd.
Military and police type people make me incredibly uncomfortable. Perhaps because I've been tortured by them. It has nothing to do with their potential for PTSD but everything to do with those services attracting sociopaths and sadists looking to get away with everything-up-to-and-including-murder.

I don't believe in god. I can't understand how people can. Part of me envies them. Most of me pities them.

I don't respect people until they earn it--especially doctors and other various medical professionals.

I find most "therapy" (especially the trendy stuff) to be utter bullsh!t.

I get angry when people confuse personal weakness of character for PTSD symptoms.

Gipeha: your point is?
Point is... you're being ridiculous.
It has nothing to do with their potential for PTSD but everything to do with those services attracting sociopaths and sadists looking to get away with everything-up-to-and-including-murder.
Please provide evidence to substantiate your statement. Viable evidence please... not nonsense. You haven't made that statement with it being your opinion, thus I will take it as a statement. Statements require evidence please.

You say you weren't diagnosed or abused, and yet in the next sentence say you were tortured. It's clear to me you're hurting, even if I understand nothing else. The refusal to trust law enforcement is a common feeling to many sufferers and it does sound like yours is much more deep than not being believed or protected, but being abused by the very people whose job it is to protect you. Sometimes villifying the entirety of the world, or at least those who remind us of the ones who hurt us can seem like an attractive means of self preservation. But it does close us off from support, believe me.

You may not be ready to hear my words, but I've typed them nonetheless. Not everyone is evil, some police officers go home hating the pain of their job but go through every shift so they can protect the innocent anyway. I know because I've met them. I hope someday you can find the support and understanding you're looking for and overcome the fear and hate that drive you to distrust them all so much. But even if that never happens, I'm trying to understand now. So you aren't alone, even if we don't agree.

Evidence: google "police sociopath" see a tremendous number of hits. Note the decent sized subsection of hits which actually matter. From memory, the interview given by the former white house chief of staff comes to mind... as does that of the author who wrote the book concerning sociopaths' penchant for positions of power (be it economic or physical). The scandal surrounding Abu Graib also comes to mind. The situation in Vietnam involving the slaughter and rape of hundreds of civilians. I read about the Lucifer effect in another thread on this very forum. Oh, right, and there's also my own experience of BEING TORTURED.

Oh, let's kick it old school: Rodney King. Haven't seen that invoked in a police brutality case in a while. Annnnnnd how many police brutality cases involve the police going to jail? Or soldiers? Right- almost never. That goes to the whole "hey, this is a profession where I can hurt people, justified or not, and not have to face consequences!" See: "contractors" in Iraq: blackwater scandal.

Now the original statement was that my aversion to military and police types was NOT due to their propensity for PTSD, but rather a culture which tolerates (praises, and shelters) sadists and sociopaths. I never said all military and police are sadists and/or sociopaths. I've known several completely well respected and respectable m&p. That doesn't change the fact that the entire system surrounding them fosters abhorrent behavior.

Point is, you're insecure and overwhelmingly likely to be M and/or P... and making a debate out of a minor point simply because you're insecure. But of course, you didn't bother to cite evidence yourself, did you? You posted another thread, without comment or anything of your own. Your contribution was worthless and you only sought to upset me. That'd make you... sadistic! and hey, I already guessed you were M&P so thanks for confirming my unsupported "statement" anecdotally.

If you'd like to have taken my place during my torture, I'm sure another go can be arranged quite easily.

Such that you can find your way to the statistics which support newspaper article's quote:

According to the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting statistics, between January 2010 and September 2010, 31 cops per 100,000 committed homicide and 73 committed sexual assault. In comparison to 100,000 of the general population (this includes blacks, whites, Mexicans, gang members etc) only 5 citizens committed homicide and 29 committed sexual assaults.

And of course, this only involves statistics where people actually REPORTED the police and/or they were caught.

Because it's not like anyone would be afraid to report a cop... TO THE COPS.

You say you weren't diagnosed or abused, and yet in the next sentence say you were tortured.

I was diagnosed, but with PTSD, not c-ptsd. The quotation were because a diagnosis for c-ptsd doesn't exist.

Thank you, though. Seriously and profoundly. Your words don't bother me and I certainly never meant to imply that all police and military are monsters.

I don't want to talk about what my traumatic experiences were, only to define what they weren't. The reasoning being that spending a few months here, I've discovered that there are certain popular patterns that most sufferers display. I just don't fit the molds. I'm not saying they don't suffer, or that I'm not suffering... but I feel a fundamental disconnect. And I certainly feel disconnected from those in my life who haven't been traumatized.

I just wish I'd died.

I do not see information that you cited about police committing said offences. Can you please be more specific. That link contains information against police, not by police. Can you please provide the link to the actual information?

I don't spoonfeed trolls-- especially those lacking the research skills of a high school graduate.

You have been tortured, this is abuse.

Abuse by those in authority, those who are supposed to care and protect- The police.
You have PTSD and you should not feel bad just because others have experienced other forms of abuse, this does not make it anymore or any less.

I have heard and seen many things where people in authority have abused their power. Sadly, the more power a person gets, the more it can go to their head.

Where I come from there are tons and tons of articles news reports about police abuse.

Racism, beatings, the list is endless about the abuse from the police. BUT they got reported, and those who committed those crimes did get punished, only if they were reported, and sadly some of the victims died.

There is no need to ask for evidence, why? Because there are bad people everywhere just as there are good people.

There are good people in the police force as well, those who wish to do their job and uphold the law. I can understand why you feel this way and it is like someone who dislikes men because they have been sexually assaulted, it is understandable how you feel, but therapy can help. It can help you cope with your symptoms, help deal with the anger. You just need to find someone who suits your needs.
