How Much Water Do You Drink?

My husband and friends bother me about not drinking or eating enough. While at their house in the summer it was a scorching day and they were angry because my husband pinched my skin on my leg and it took over 30 minutes to retract. They lectured me over and over and when we went into town gave me a water bottle and would not let me out of the vehicle until I drank it. To be truthful I rarely feel thirsty. I was not allowed to drink water when I wanted to growing up and learned to disconnect hunger and thirst early on.

I do put a full glass of water on my counter to try and remind myself to drink and the discussion from my friends did make me take notice a bit more but I still struggle with drinking water or anything else. I have been taking a coconut water to my therapists appointment and drinking that throughout it. I almost feel a bit nauseated when I drink anything and not sure why.

I have tried flavouring water with lemon and drinking herbal teas. I make a tea in the morning but I usually end up microwaving it throughout the day and may not have finished it before days end. It is something I need to pay more attention to.

A long time ago I used to drink alot of ice tea. I do not remember when I switched over to water. I always hava large glass of water by my side. I even take water on my car rides. I was just curious. I heard it was healthy for the body.

Winter times are less and right now I'm not as physically active (no cardio exercise til the knee heals... then it's a liter before and a liter after exercise as well), so it's 100-120 ounces a day for me. I don't count coffee, juices, sodas, or tea unless the tea is herbal and non caffinated. During the summer with my 4-5 days a week cardio, it's between 140-180 ounces.

Some of the medications cause thirst or dry mouth
Agreed! I think those of us on meds need more water too.

Just don't seem to have the thirst for it.
Britt,
Our thirst mechanism isn't very effective apparently. If we go without water for a period of time we stop getting thirsty unless extremely dehydrated. I find once I start drinking regularly I start getting very thirsty and needing water.

about not drinking
Momoftwo,
That was one of my parents gems. I was always told that I was going to get "even fatter" (I was underweight) whenever I drank water. That water would make me fat. Oh and none of the rest of the family had eating or weight issues either and these things were never said to my siblings. So I ended up with all sorts of screwy associated feelings about it. On top of that I think a lot of people with eating disorders have issues with fluids. For many of the same reasons as food!

I am over it now :) and drink plenty and regularly.

I so connected with that sentence. It's taken me years to reprogram my head and stomach to take water. I still get sick if I drink too much at once, have to space it out quite a bit. It's horrible how neglect like that can effect our nutrition for a lifetime and take such hard work to change.
