We bought a neighbor's 22 year old riding mower and my H got it running again. When the grown up kids came to dinner Sunday, there was barely a glance at my new car - NO! everyone wanted to admire the lawn tractor! :roflmao: In all fairness, it did come with a home made "rumble seat" so that the six year old (or the dog!) can sit behind H when he mows... Middle daughter is going to paint flames on the side of the engine cover!

will be like watching the Chuckle Brothers

:hilarious: :hilarious: I can just picture it...'to me, to you...!' :hilarious:

He 'thinks' he's good at shed building but he isn't really! He's very good at lifting things and doing as he's told though!

These stories have really cheered me up! My H was given a petrol mower once, he's been after on for ages as he has a tendency to run over the cables on the electric ones. The blooming thing was so loud it woke all the neighbours! It didn't last long and he went back to an electric one. He still looks longingly at the petrol ones in the DIY store but I tell him there is no way his poor wife can lift the blooming thing out of the shed! That usually works! :D

I really miss the sound of my Dad's old push lawn mower that use to go 'clickerty-clack' on a summers day. I loved that sound.

He has one of those, the new one is a Fly-mo so he can do the slopes. The petrol one is heavy.

I remember my Grand-dad had one of those. It seemed much gentler than the ones now.

We had a push mower... until my pianist brother cut the end of his finger off with it! I like that noise too. They actually do a far better job than the power mowers (cuz you have to keep the blades sharp) but only if you have a pretty small yard.....

The pus mowers make lovely stripes on the lawn and it was always one of the sounds of summer. Bees buzzing, birds singing and the old lawn mower.

KP, those petrol ones are definitely heavy, glad he's got a fly mow! My H would help with the shed any time!

Talking of boys toys. My 2 lads are really into swords and the history of weaponry. They have quite a collection. Now they are making shields and scabbards so I have tools, wood and shavings everywhere! It is too cold for them to work outside so I have these huge pieces of wood in my hallway.

The boys toys thing starts early...I should never have bought them a toy tool kit when they were little. :D

When we bought our house, my husband's parents gave us a push mower. I thought, great it will help me lose weight. I could barely push the thing through our lawn(we have an acre). I like the idea of it but now I prefer my riding mower.

My son likes weaponry too CraftyCath. One year his dad bought him a real sword. Scared the bejeezus out of me. Now we have it hanging securely on the wall. He also did fencing so he has an epee. Now he wants a lightsaber, but a real one. lol He's 14. Keeps me on my toes.

he wants a lightsaber

LOL Brit! That would be so cool but so dangerous!

My Sons have a collection of swords, some are wall hangers (designed to look nice but not very useful) but some are real. My youngest has a bow and a cross bow too. I'd love to take up archery and may do so if I can find a local club.

My eldest son has tried fencing but prefers medieval sword fighting. He has just told me that if your son needs information then 'sword buyers guide' is the place . Though you might not want to encourage him. The site does tell them how to tell a fake and how to be safe around swords. My two have learned a great deal and are very careful.

I'll have to look into that. The sword he has is definitely real. It seemed a waste to have it hidden, so I bought him something to hang it. A bit difficult with the hand guard. I've thought of taking him to a medieval fair that we have here every summer but I'm not sure if that would make it more difficult for me in the long run. ;)
