Worst Interview Ever!!!!

I have had some job interviews lately that have not gone very well but this mornings one is my worst yet. I really had my doubts that this job was a good fit for me and almost decided to leave once I arrived. I met with the HR representative who had contacted for the interview and he described the job before taking me on a tour of the production plant.

I found out that the company wants to train people fresh out of college to become supervisory mangers. This is not something I want in a job so I had already decided to tell the interviewing manger this after the tour was over. During the tour of the facility a employee approach the HR guy giving me the tour saying she was going to quit due to a "situation" that wasn't getting better since it was becoming physical. My tour guide told me to wait a moment and he went to talk to a guy who was working on the other side of the room. This really did not help my already high anxiety about being around so many strange people.

So after the tour I was escorted to the head managers office for the actually interview. The manger there asked me if I was still interested in the position. I said no that I didn't think it was a good fit for me. I am pretty sure he took offense to my answer since he started pressuring me to change it. He went on about how many people in the company would love to take the job and also that in my current state (being fresh out of college with no experience) that I was worth nothing to him. He even asked me want was my idea job and when I told him he mock it by saying that it was akin to being a zookeeper (as if that was a bad thing). To say this guy was intimidating is the understatement of the year.

I am still trying to calm down from this experience and am not looking forward to my interview tomorrow. Thanks for reading any reply's are welcomed.

Dear aka, What a big a*@!ole of a so called HR manager !!! I'm so sorry, that you had such a bad job interview.
If that job really would be that awesome, that so many people of that company would want to have it, then WHY do they have to look for an external employee? I really got the impression, that's quite a bit fishy!!! IMHO I would even say that guy is a liar, and they got something to hide!

But I also want to encourage you: You did a real big job, by being fearless and just telling him the truth straight in the face. Well done! I know such things are very unpleasant, but please try to give you a self-compliment, for handle that bad situation well! I'm really proud of you, that's true! :singing::hug:

If it helps, going online and typing in [DLMURL]http://www.glassdoor.com[/DLMURL] or a service like it can (sometimes) afford insight into a work culture, what the expectations are, employee turnover issues, etc. Factor in that some reviews are planted, whereas others may wax negative just out of spite. Somewhere between those poles exists truth, whereas one needs to be so careful these days. In particular, the young and vulnerable, knowing not quite how to defend themselves against unreasonable demands are to others so much fresh meat to victimize and pressure. I'm sorry for this...

Some potential employers are affording situations that it should be illegal to frame as legitimate employment, whereas yesterday I received some phishing scam email off of a Craigslist.org posting that prompted me to type in 'Craigslist.org employment scams' into a search engine. It was appalling to see how so many others had also been attracted to what they dearly hoped was legitimate opportunity only to find fakery, pyramid schemes, shakedowns for bank account numbers, etc. One has to be more defensive than ever before - and yes, I know it's terribly heartbreaking that circumstances seem no more civil than what someone fresh off the boat might encounter in 1880's New York City. Be brave, learn as quickly as you might to discern real from artificial opportunity. Kind regards...

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. Why hire someone right out of college when you have plenty people internally that would take the job? I can also anticipate lots of resentment from the older employees by bring in young people to become there mangers. Not a situation I would want to be in.

I think it also has a lot to do with the desperation to be able to make student loan payments. I mean you have six months to start payments and the inability to find a job in that time frame is not seen as good enough excuse for deferment. Hence the wiliness to withstand poor working conditions.

Oh good lord.

I hear stories like this and it makes me stronger in my resolve to never work for such "companies"! Honestly, I don't know if I could handle it. Even when I was better (years ago) I worked for a large financial institution and we would get called up and reamed out for being ONE MINUTE late. Good god my dog gets treated better!

I'm sorry that "HR" guy was such a jerk. :tdown: I do think you made an excellent decision resisting, though. You stuck to your guns and listened to your self even when he laid into you, tryin' to send you on a guilt trip! I think that's great! And I hope you take this experience as a triumph and a demonstration of your willpower (even under tough circumstances :tup: ).

Good for you for telling him no. I once was trapped in a group interview in retail that all I wanted to do was say no and run. I stuck it out until the end when it was time to build a tent. Yes build a tent for a part time seasonal job! I look back at it and cannot help but laugh. You made the right choice.

Thanks for all the posts guys. I have had several interviews since this one and they have been pretty normal. I hope that keeps happen (knock on wood). No job offers so I am starting to become very discouraged. Which is not helping my anxiety an depression symptoms. Hopefully I will have a offer soon.

Hang in there. Jobs are not easy to come by these days. If you don't get a job please don't take it personally. I understand being discouraged over it and it not helping your anxiety or depression. I have been there. It is good that you keep getting interviews. I wish you the best of luck.
