Anyone Hiring???

So my sufferer has been unemployed and is struggling to find a job. Does anyone know of any places that hire vets part-time?

Here's the thing, he has applied everywhere Target, Walmart, Starbucks, gyms, car dealerships, and nothing. He has his M.A. and will start school soon for his PHD. He's frustrated at how he fought for this country and yet can't get hired by Target during the busiest season of the year! It's pathetic how many vets are unemployed and struggle so hard to get by, and that's not taking the horrible PTSD that they come back with.

If anyone knows of a place that is hiring in the Southbay area in Los Angeles, California I'd greatly appreciate you getting back to me.

Not sure of specific jobs, but I found an organization dedicated to veterans. Its headquarters are in Alpharetta, Georgia. I did a quick check to make sure they covered the Los Angeles area and they do. It is called Hire Hereos USA, just google it. They provide services to help build resumes and game plans, there is also a job board. Seems very user friendly. Check it out :)

He applied there and nothing... Funny thing is that he use to work for them before and had a management position as well.

If I was him and if I had good job reviews, I'd write a personal letter to Charles Schulz and have it delivered FedEx (hard to overlook a biggish FedEx envelope). And I'd do it soon.

Do you mean Howard Schulz the CEO?... When he got the email from Target rejecting his application he was furious and really wants everyone in the world to know how they won't hire a combat vet with a Masters in business.

It's a very sad situation for our veterans. The job market is difficult for almost everyone now, and has been for quite a while. I work for a large internationally known employer. I love my job, but we've had a freeze on pay raises since 2009 and many, many lay-offs. Just got notice another round is coming Q1. Between a former job and the one I have now I had to dumb down my resume/job application to get a part time position with Costco to tie me over. Gotta do what one needs to do for an employer to find you attractive.

It's sad... This government should have jobs ready for our vets as soon as they come home.

That's what he's doing to his resume, changing it up so it doesn't seem he's over qualified for the position (which he clearly is). But at this point he's willing to work anywhere and do anything.

Has he done research/applied to some of the distribution centers in Cerritos and surrounding areas?

He can't do big jobs because it'll be time consuming and his PTSD will get to him. He has applied to many jobs on craigslist and wherever he says a now hiring ad.

I'm not a vet and not in the US but I'm a PTSD sufferer who recently got a job.

I was applying for less responsible jobs than I'd be able to do if I didn't have PTSD, and although I'd adjusted my CV (sorry, it feels too weird to call it a resume, but same thing) for a while I was still being rejected at the first stage.

Has he had training and taken advice on writing his resume, application forms, etc? That was what made the difference for me, together with a revised game plan. I don't know how it works where you are. I don't just mean reading online tips. I went on a free half day course through a government scheme, read lots of online advice and examples, then had a free CV review through another government scheme. @mytai's suggestion sounds like you might have something similar for veterans.

Companies process these very quickly and are looking for a few key things. Often they're scanned for keywords and sifted electronically before a human even looks at them. Then the human spends only a few seconds on each one. They need to be written in a very particular way. It isn't how I wanted to write mine, I thought it was awful. But after I learnt it and changed my CV and approach I got very different results, and a job.
