Waking Up In Panic

@brat17 Wow you have had challenges. I have meds for sleep but it messes me up. I have nightmares when I take it.

@shimmerz I can't remember when my nighttime problems started, it was at least when I was 6. There is no rhyme or reason for it as far as I know. Well yes, it is trauma based. It is lessening since I've been getting Reiki treatments. It's helping my headaches, too.

No disrespect intended but, I had to chuckle imagining your sleep test!! I guess they've seen it all. Did they give you any advice? I don't think I could tolerate one. The thought of being watched creeps me out.

@Springer80 Can relate. Either I'm up all night or I'm dead to the world. I wonder what's going on in our heads. Too much cortisol or not enough GABA. There's got to be studies on sleep problems with the PTSD community.

When I had infants to feed my ex would have to shake me awake. Then when they were mobile I worried so much about their safety, I couldn't stay asleep.[DOUBLEPOST=1403261685,1403261470][/DOUBLEPOST]I don't know where to start with my nightmares. They are disabling. No news to this community. I've been reading in posts about prazosin helping them. I'm going to give Reiki some more time. I am definitely sleeping better with it and reading positive affirmations before bed.

Adderoll does not make me speed, although I have never taken speed. It just helps me to be fully awake.

Sleep hygiene-not drinking caffeine after 5 or 6. Doing something relaxing in the evening, like reading. Taking a hot bath. Drinking camomile tea, etc. Whatever may help to make you calmer and in the mood for sleep, compared to watching tv shows and using computer. Though, to be honest, I like to play games on the computer, get on this forum, have tv on even though I know it doesnt help

@brat17
My shrink told me all that. He said I should get out of bed and sit in a soft chair with a soft light and read until I'm sleepy. DOES NOT WORK. I get overstimulated with that. I'm better off just trying to lay still in a dark room and relax all my muscles. Even if my brain won't sleep, I try to simulate it for my body.

I know I should try harder, but I am on computer late with tv on. The tea and bath did help a little bit, but I could not maintain it. Again, I think I have some fear of falling asleep. Im like a little kid that fights sleep until I just pass out.
